Happy March!!

This month we’re bringing some springtime to Afghanistan.  We have a Unit of 86 (80 men, 6 women) on deployment to an area where conditions are as our contact describes:

Living conditions are decent (4 walls, a roof, and floor), but could always use a touch of home. We have standard US-style electricity.

Snack foods, movies, and reading material are big hits.  As for the pillowcases, they would be very well received - most of the guys are still using standard issue scratchy military pillowcases.

Food requests are along the line of pickup and go snacks. Candy, sunflower seeds, nuts, & protein bars.

Our female counterparts are good for the basics. They are huge on the creature comforts that make the workplace not smell like dirty boots and muck (Candles or non-battery/plug in scented sticks). And snacks ... I think the recurring theme is candy and snacks

The largest request would be: COFFEE, Coffee Cups, and Filters!!  Tea would be a great addition; there are a few of us who drink tea.  Not sure exactly what type of tea they drink during the day, but I know I heard whispers of wanting the "Sleep Time" tea for the evening.

The general consensus other than coffee is really staying comfortable and weathering the winter while we complete our tour. Any support that is sent our way would be greatly appreciated!

Kim at “We Stitch Love” is already working on making their sleep time more comfortable.

They do have access to a freezer so if it melts they can re-chill it back into some sort of shape.

Mom’s ... they’re missing home, but I think we can bring some home to them.  Let’s make it happen!! Our mailing will be March 19th – March 22nd

I got started on our March request as soon as I could and am happy to say that Bigelow Inc. has promised a donation of their American Classic blend to our March Unit.  A big HOOYAH to Bigelow!!  And to our Bigelow contact Cindy my extreme gratitude.

I have also written to Sam’s Club about a donation of cups and am still waiting for a reply.  Our POC says they ration their Styrofoam cups and reuse until they disintegrate.  I’m working on getting a back-up case together from the nurses I work with.

That's wonderful! I like their tea!

This is great!!!! We will definitely be buying more of their teas, which won't make it hard since we love it...lol

Well done, CruAn!

I'm in and WSL will take care of their sleepy heads!

Thank you Kim.  I don't know how you do it every month ...

count me in for snacks and candy!

I'M IN!!!! Got lots of protein bars, snacks, and candy!!

I haven't been around much, sorry...but will send some candy and snacks this month.

I finally dragged my sewing machine out of hiding...now to set it up and use it....that will be a big accomplishment!

What is it about sewing machines that they seem to last forever. A little oil and they're good to go. Thanks for dusting yours off!

The staff at work is contributing bags of coffee.  There are days when I wish coffee could be given as an IV fluid. They can be bears when their caffeine levels are low.  LOL.  Anyone else remember when a container of coffee was actually a pound?

Do you know if they would rather have styrofoam or paper cups? I can order from Amazon and send them directly to them.
