Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

Vaction time after A school?
Hi everyone!
my husband is in A school in great lakes IL.. dive school starts may 9th ( hes EOD) i was reading and even told that sometime there is free time as in " vacation time" before they head to panama city.. can someone answer this or even clear it up for me. thank you!

Brenda z, when my son went to dive school he was home for about a week. He was driving so he had some time in between. H drove from St Louis and stopped to see some friends on the way. Good luck to your husband. EOD is a challenge but worth it ( from a mom's point of view). EOD is a great family to belong to.

Brenda z, my son has been in for almost 7 years. He did A school at GL and C school in San Diego. He was assigned to the Ronald Reagan. He applied for EOD while serving in the fleet. After his last deployment he drove home from San Diego and was home for almost a month and then went to GL for dive prep. He was driving from GL to Panama City so he had extra time for travel and stopped home for a few days. So I can not answer your question about time off between A school and dive school. If the Navy is doing his travel you just have to go with the flow.

Thanks so much for answering my question as it did answer my question! however for some odd reason im still a bit confused? so after your son graduated A school in great lakes.. before heading over to panama city he had a week off?

Brenda z, sorry about that. My son was in the fleet before he went into EOD so he did not go from GL to Panama City. I am off to work so I will write more tonight and give you a better explanation. Have a good day.

My husband is also heading to Panama City for dive school as well. I haven't heard anything about vacation time but I was wondering if you had any information on when spouses are allowed to pcs to eglin. I'm having trouble finding info!

I haven't found out anything yet, and when i spoke with my husband about it, he as well was a bit unsure.. it also depends if they even pass dive school in PC. So i guess all in all it usual depends? however if you do find anything about it, please let me know! when did your husband graduate RTC?

He graduated at the end of November. He was in another program before the eod program so he's actually going to Great Lakes next week. Should be going to PC at the end of the month.

Hi BrendaZ, I see several people have responded to this as it was months ago. However, my boyfriend is graduating from basic training and will start dive prep school after that. He is going for EOD. How has it been for you in the last few months? I'm reading all I can and trying to find out information, but everything's confusing. Any insight from your experiences would be appreciated! Thanks.

Karenlee I realize it's been almost a year since you left comment but was curious when you said challenge are you talking physical or mental and just wondering if you could elaborate a little more. My son just received a automatic contract yesterday and he signs Monday.

2navykids, EOD is demanding both physically and mentally. After bc they do dive prep at GL which is pretty intense. This is the start of who makes it, who doesn't. A lot of pool work. Not sure what they actually do because my son would not share that with me because I would of worried to much but I have a good idea of what they go through. Next,it's on to Panama City for diving. They learn the Navy way to dive and spend most of their time in the water. After this they go up the coast to Eglin to start the class room and hands on schooling. They still do a lot of pt and swimming in the bay. If you google Navy EOD you will find a timeline of how they should progress through the school. I say that because there is always a chance that they will be rolled back to repeat a course and that will change their graduation date. This journey is a wild ride of ups and downs. There will be moments of tears from relief that they passed a section to omg they have to retake a section but when they graduate you are so proud of them you just want to jump for joy. They then have about 9 more weeks of training- jump school and tactical before they go to their assigned unit. Our son is with MU8 but will be moving to MU12 sometime this year. You can also google EOD mobile units and see where they are at. Even numbers are east coast based and odd on the west coast. They can be stationed on either coast or overseas.
