Happy March!!

This month we’re bringing some springtime to Afghanistan.  We have a Unit of 86 (80 men, 6 women) on deployment to an area where conditions are as our contact describes:

Living conditions are decent (4 walls, a roof, and floor), but could always use a touch of home. We have standard US-style electricity.

Snack foods, movies, and reading material are big hits.  As for the pillowcases, they would be very well received - most of the guys are still using standard issue scratchy military pillowcases.

Food requests are along the line of pickup and go snacks. Candy, sunflower seeds, nuts, & protein bars.

Our female counterparts are good for the basics. They are huge on the creature comforts that make the workplace not smell like dirty boots and muck (Candles or non-battery/plug in scented sticks). And snacks ... I think the recurring theme is candy and snacks

The largest request would be: COFFEE, Coffee Cups, and Filters!!  Tea would be a great addition; there are a few of us who drink tea.  Not sure exactly what type of tea they drink during the day, but I know I heard whispers of wanting the "Sleep Time" tea for the evening.

The general consensus other than coffee is really staying comfortable and weathering the winter while we complete our tour. Any support that is sent our way would be greatly appreciated!

Kim at “We Stitch Love” is already working on making their sleep time more comfortable.

They do have access to a freezer so if it melts they can re-chill it back into some sort of shape.

Mom’s ... they’re missing home, but I think we can bring some home to them.  Let’s make it happen!! Our mailing will be March 19th – March 22nd

Navy brat/mom, I have some print fabric (not flowery or girly)  that I can send you if you would like me to. Just PM me your name and address and I will get some sent to you.

Thank you so much Kim. I'll PM you that now.

I need to ask Kim at We Stitch Love for a count unless you have a direct line.

Pat, I'd be lost without you :)  Last post says 80 the the men are needed.

My daughters class volunteered to make pictures & cards in art class!!  A BIG "Thank You" to their Art Teacher!

I can't believe the amount of items I have to box up this month.  The girls at work have been great.  My husband opens the door to the guest room and then immediately closes it again. (I think he's afraid he'll be volunteered to help me pack LOL). Shipping day will be here before I know it!

Hello everyone ---- ya i know "who is this new lady stepping in here talking"

I have been off n4m for so long that I had to log back in.  I guess spending so much time on fb the last few years and now truth is i like the feeling better of the closeness of sisters in this here place --I miss that !!!    ANYHOO the reason I am here is because I had a few girl scout troops collecting cookies for MAS babies. We are having a packing party Monday they collected 65 boxes of cookies. I also have cases of sunflower seeds and I still have some non plug in fabreeze left from a florida party a few years back :)   So if this sounds good to send to March babies I think about 50 boxes is what they are shooting for. Does March need all 50 do you want me to send some hold some for April kiddos. I can probably ship them by Wednesday the 19th.  mgisi@mollysadoptasailor is my email to get to me this weekend ---- I am going to the local university and trying to help them start a packing event in june !!   MUCHO LOVE to you all

For what it is worth.........March is a smaller group, April's adoption is @300.

I agree with Pat.  86 can't compare to 300.  Can we start a box count please?  I have 8.  Coffee, filters, lots of snacks including 1 box of nice smelling things for those in need.   I spoke with Cindy from Bigelow Tea.  She was expecting our box any day, then it goes directly to the Unit. I don't have a confirmed quantity yet.

I have 2 good sized boxes. Filters and LOTS of snacks. Things like cheezits, oreos, sunflower seeds, trail mix, etc. I bought the large boxes from Sam's club but I'm going to try to consolidate them into just a few boxes to try to save on shipping. I will also send a 3rd box that will be smelly stuff, candles, lotions, etc.

That sounds great!! Thank you!
