My step-son is going into MM School in GL after PIR on 4/4.  Will he have liberty for the weekend after PIR or just for the evening after the ceremony?  If we have more time to spend with him than just the two hours, I'd love to change our travel plans around it.

THANKS!

My son is also going to MM at GL after PIR on 4/25..From my understanding they'll have to check in to A school after PIR..before they can leave which will take anywhere between 3-5 hours..then they'll have until 9 or 10 that night (Friday) then the whole weekend with you..from 7-9 am until 9-10pm both Saturday and Sunday..HTH

Hi Lainey,

Just wanted to give you an update - a week late, but at least it's here!  :o)  After PIR, we waited till about 1430 to pick up our Sailor.  He was in one of the first groups to make it across the street, though.  He had until 2130 each night (wanted to make sure he made it back at least 30 mins before curfew).

Our Sailor was so pleased with his new compartment - only 3 other guys and a bit more "freedom" to do their own thing.  :o)

I'm assuming he's staying in GL! My husband is MM and stayed in Great Lakes. It's a few hrs of waiting Friday while they check into school after PIR, but I got to pick my husband back up around 4pm froday. He had to be back around 9. Then sat I could pick him up at 5am and he didn't have to be back til 10pm. And same for Saturday. Depending on his ship the time he leaves an has to be back could be different, but he should still get all weekend.

If he is staying in Great Lakes after PIR you will have the weekend with him. He will have to be back on base at curfew (have him back 30 min. early) He will be busy for several hours after PIR moving into his new ship so plan to go do something while he is busy with this. Congrats! PIR is amazing!!

Cat - yes, you will be able to have the weekend with your SR. They cannot spend the night off base, but pretty much have liberty the rest of the time. When you go to pick them up, you will need to meet them at the gate, he/she will get in the car with you and then you will have to drive on to the base and over to his/her ship to sign them out. When you return them later you will have sign them in. You get a sneak peek at where they will be living for the next few months!

Thanks so much for the information everyone!  This is wonderful!  I'm not one of the people going to the ceremony, so this is so great that I'll get to see him for longer than just a few hours after PIR.  :-)  Just wonderful!!
