Hi Everyone!
My husband leaves for boot camp April 14th 2014. He is going in as an E3 Nuclear Engineer.
1. How long does it take for paycheck to come in?
And is direct deposit set up at boot camp?
Will he need bank account number and routing information etc?
Does BAH also come during boot camp?
2. After boot camp, will he need to stay in the barracks for a while before I am allowed to move down
to base housing Charleston? If so, How long of a wait?
When will dates be finalized for the Navy moving all of our furniture etc to Charleston?
Moving cost is pretty much all paid for right?
3. At the Charleston Housing Base do they do credit checks? What if you dont have established credit?
Will you need a co signer?
What are the upfront costs for housing?
Are there any down payments?
Do they automatically give you free base housing or do you get a monthly BAH and then basically give it to them the same as any other apartment?
If someone can answers my questions I will love you forever!!!!!!!!!!! I will probably have more questions on the way! haha

I don't have any answers for you personally, but, while I was looking for something else I came across this page. Maybe it will help.
Wow links were very helpful! Thank-you so much!
I will give you this info as I have been a nuke for 10.5 years.
- Your husband will be far from being a nuclear engineer, recommend not calling his job title that because it will in no way be remotely close to what they do.
1- He will start getting paid for his time as soon as he goes to boot camp, so the paychecks will start a couple weeks after he gets there. His first couple at least will not be he starting normal size those since they take out costs of issuing him all his uniforms and stuff.
He will set up direct deposit while there, he can take his own bank account info or can set up a navy federal or usaa account there.
BAH, if you are married and not just engaged he will get BAH, I forget if it will be for the great lakes area or the city that YOU reside in. But yes being married in bootcamp you get it.
2- Yes he will have to stay in the barracks for a little bit. After he gets to Charleston he can start making arrangements for your household goods move and getting a place. He may be able to get a place just a few days after being there but if you have furniture and everything you need moved there that will take multiple weeks to happen.
Dates will be finalized when he fills out all the paperwork and the Navy awards the moving contract to a moving company.
Moving cost is paid for as long as you don't go over the weight limit allowed for his rank, which i believe may be around 6000lbs. Anything over that you have to pay the cost.
3- No they do not do credit checks and no you don't need a cosigner. They have direct access to your husbands account and pull it right out before he even gets it. SO they are not worried cuz they know they get their money.
There are no upfront costs for housing. They will just start taking an allotment from your husbands paycheck. If you decide to live off base then of course you may end up spending more money and will have to make deposits and such.
There are no down payments for military housing.
You don't get "free housing", the Navy gives your husband BAH but the alottment is set up to where they take that money directly away from him and he never really sees it. The price of your housing there will be the whole amount of BAH. When you go to some duty stations such as San Diego where I am not they have many places for military housing and some take your complete BAH and some have a lower cost in which you will end up getting part of your BAH in your paycheck monthly.
By the way, enjoy the Charleston area. Support your husband as best as possible, don't get mad when he constantly comes home frustrated(believe me he will). Tell him to relax and make sure he gets out from time to time and enjoy things to get his mind off work. In the end it is a game and if you just play by its rules everything will be fine and dandy.
Okay wow I am definitely showing this message to my husband! Seriously, THANK-YOU for being so helpful! I know it probably took some time lol sorry about that.
Oh and what do Nukes call their job title? :)
Thank-you for your service to our country!
More of a nuclear operator. Don't worry, many people go in thinking the nuke job is something entirely different than what it is.
Any other questions feel free to ask.
My husband left for RTC on the 15th and he's also going to be going to A-School in SC.. When will he know if I will have to wait to move with him? His recruiter told us something COMPLETELY different and said we would have about a week after his PIR to move over there. Is this not true?
