Hi all.  I do not have any information yet from my son.  I will tell you that the information you provide to us newbies is amazing.  I have gotten calling cards free from the site you provided.  I am going to try and book my tickets to PIR as soon as I get the email OR information from the recruiter as to when it is.

I know my son has wanted this forever and is 23 now.  He tried the college route but ALWAYS wanted this.  He is going to be a Corpsman and will do well.  I miss him alot but know he is happy. He has a dog he loves and luckily his best friends are keeping that dog for him.  I am going to try and find sailor hats for him to wear and take pictures.  I want to keep him engaged in his home life as much as possible.

So if you all have any info for me on how to access pictures for my son and any information I would appreciate it.  Also, any creative fun ideas for our sons, daughters, loved ones...let's do it.

Thanks all.

I will suggest that you wait on doing anything until you have the form letter. The recruits don't always have the correct information. Once you know the division or PIR date you can join the group with others who have SRs in the same TG and division as yours.

The free calling cards are great, but remember they are only a 20 minute card and a phone call may be given that is longer than 20 minutes. If your SR did not take a calling card with him you might want to purchase a refillable card, with plenty of minutes available, and send it to him.

Pictures in BC are random (if any), or a division picture may be posted if the Tuesday Trivia winner on the RTC FB page happens to have a SR in the same division as yours.

That should say "The recruiters don't always have the correct information." Your recruit should have the correct information when he sends the form letter.

https://www.facebook.com/NavyRecruitTrainingCommand is the RTC's facebook page that ellen mentioned.

Arrival and What Happens at the RTC within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) will let you know what is happening and what to expect. Your form letter should be coming soon. Some with recruits who arrived on the 25th received the form letter today. PIR is most likely 05/23/2014, so you can join PIR 05/23/2014 TG 28, but don't make any firm plans until you receive the form letter confirming that.

Thank you so much.  I will definitely join that group and run to my mailbox tomorrow.  Did you have someone go through BC?  I always wonder how hard it is and what the recruits think about...thank you so much.

Yes, I have had a Sailor since October 2008. There are videos and info in Arrival and What Happens at the RTC to give you an idea of how things work at the RTC. Some recruits struggle more than others. My now Sailor was hurt during BC and on crutches and LLD for several days and had to do his PFA over due to failing the run and went through BST and PIR with a fever, but he had PIR on time. Just keep writing encouraging letters. Those letters--long or short--are so precious to your recruit as are the few you will get from him.

Thank you so much for sharing that.  My son was so afraid that he would not pass his run.  I will start writing those letters!

I hope that everything works out for your SR.

BTW, you still have changes to make on your My Page.

Oops typo on my part..Yes, recruiters. Thanks LE!!

:o)

Hi everyone.  I found out my son is in Ship 11, Division 181.  He is a Corpsman and I finally got to send him a letter.  I hope he gets it ok and is able to send me one.  We booked our hotel on base because my boyfriend is an Army veteran.  I am so happy for my son.  You were right I am not as anxious because he now has a path.  He can feel what it is like to overcome obstacles and achieve success.

  You guys are so awesome.

The restrictions at the Navy Gateway Inn and Suites for the new Sailors do not apply to those who are flying out, only those who are staying at GL.

JD's Mom, Check your My Page.

I checked my homepage and I think I did what was needed.
