My son just got his date to leave for BC in October 2014. Haven't seen any posts since 2013 on this board. Looking for others that are finding there way here with same dates?

Hi Hari! I'm trying to figure out where the other families are from. I'm in So Cal. What state are you in? I read somewhere that there is a certain distance that sailors must obey while on leave. I guess we'll get more information as time goes by! Nice to meet you Hari! My son is on ship13 div 044.
Best, Chris
Hi Chris,
we live in the DFW area in Texas. Where in So Cal are you? We lived in Orange Hills (Orange County) for 5 years a while back. There's a lot of uncertainty on leave and from what I understand, they may get some leave because of the holidays. Leave is different than liberty. I think the distance restrictions you're talking about apply to liberty but not leave. I could be wrong but I'm learning. Nice to meet you Chris. My son is Ship 13 Div 043. TTYL, Hari
Yes, leave is like Vacation in the civilian world and Liberty is similar to time off after your regular work time when you are not scheduled to work. Sailors must stay within 50 miles of the RTC while on Liberty PIR weekend. Each "A" School has different regulations concerning the Liberty boundary, which can range from 50 miles to I think 350 miles depending on the school. Sailors have to be able to get back quickly from Liberty if needed and so they are not able to fly anywhere while on Liberty. There are a few restrictions for Leave (there are some countries that Sailors are not permitted to visit, for example), but mostly if the command grants Leave, then the Sailor can go where s/he indicated for the time that has been approved.
Hi- this is my oldest as well. He leaves Oct. 7. Nice to meet you KHarmon70!
My son leaves Oct. 7th. Glad to see someone else with that date!
My son will be leaving Oct. 7th for Great Lakes!
mine leaves Oct 7 to Great lakes. From Colorado
8 1/2 weeks is average--9 Fridays. See Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.
My son leaves Oct 2 as well. Thanksgiving Wednesday does look like the best guess for PIR. A little scary to anticipate planning travel for that particular week! Great information on this site...looks like if PIR is, in fact, that week they may get a little "extra" day liberty and not fly out for A school until the weekend. That would be a treat! Not counting on it, but a girl can dream, can't she?
