Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Is this your first child in the military? It is a wonderful and proud feeling to see them serve. At least, in the Navy, your son won't end up IN the dangerous countries (my Marine did 7 months in Iraq). Hang on.... it's worth the roller coaster ride!! ;-D

My husband is leaving on the 12th. I am in limbo right now, just waiting for it to hurry up and get here. I hate that he is leaving but I would rather just get it over with! Does your son know where he will be after RTC?

He's heading to Virginia for Culinary Specialist. He just wants to learn to cook for crowds... That, and no jobs up here in Wisconsin. Military life is not easy, but with lots of love and hard work, you can make it. Will you be staying with family while he "schools"?

We moved back home with my parents until he leaves in May. I will stay with them until he gets to South Carolina (he is a nuke so we will be there for A school). Once he gets settled I'll be moving there with him. I understand the no jobs issue. My husband wanted to enlist right out of high school but he decided to go to college on a football scholarship. Once he grduated there just weren't any jobs that he could support a family on so he decided to try the military. I think he feels like he should've done this all along but better late than never I guess :)

Ah, everyone loves the "cook"! I look forward to chatting with you as the time moves forward. Take a deep breath and keep breathing! He'll do fine in "boot", they almost all do. It's surprising what they find they are capable of when they have no choice! We'll all get through it ... together!

Another week closer. I'm not sure who is more nervous about his leaving, him or me. I will SOOO miss this man in our home. It doesn't help that the pickup date for MEPS is my birthday. Ahhh, LIFE.

Hi Carol, I have a son that arrived RTC the same week as your son. Do you have your son's anticipated graduation date yet? Mine is July 11th. He is in ship 13, div 215.

MollyKat - my son actually arrived on the 12th and was placed in a "push" division (213) with the previous week's training. He will PIR on July 3rd. Under BootCamp Mom's you can find a specific discussion for your PIR date with other moms in you divisions. Also look for Facebook pages (if you use that) since some moms are more comfortable in that format than in this type of blog. Hang on... the roller coaster of boot is just starting UP!
