Hello Everyone! We would like to start a Basket Project for our, “Meet and Greet” to benefit Sarge and his wife, who put on these Meet & Greets weekly as long as there is a PIR. Sarge and his wife purchase/make this food for you. His wife bakes brownies every week, it is a free meal; they pay for this out of their own pocket. This is just an idea to help supplement their out of pocket cost in which he puts right back into the next weeks PIR.
What is involved is that you simply volunteer to put together baskets or tote bags with items from their state, or bath items or any other goodie items. All these are brought in and placed on a table at the Meet & Greet with a container in front of each to collect the raffle ticket of the people who want to win it. The 2 part raffle tickets are sold. Attendees have an opportunity to place tickets in the container of their choice. Then drawings are made for the winner. I hear it is great fun!! Participation is strictly voluntary on your part! The total of the items in each basket should be like $25 - $35. You can pack the separate elements in their luggage, then look for a basket or container in Great Lakes, if you want. There is a Super Walmart right smack in the middle of the hotels in Waukegan/Gurnee (Springhill Suites, Holiday Inn Express, Courtyard Marriot, Residence Inn). Or the completed basket can be one of their 2 carry-ons. Remember, your purse counts as a carry-on. This info is just what I have gleaned from other groups who have done it.
Let me know if you wish to participate :).

I will be doing one for Florida :)

Hey ladies,

I am bringing a California tote and I am so excited to make it.  Unfortunately I cannot bring bipolar weather with me, sand, snow, bad drivers, and high taxes with me but I will try my best to make it memorable lol =P

I have 1 for Maryland. Can't wait to meet you of you!

I am bringing 3!

and I have the 50/50 tickets!

I'm bringing one - CA

Lainey, I am doing a basket. Not sure what type yet. I am from Ohio so either another of those or just a general basket. Can't wait to see everyone!
Sounds fun!! I'll put together a New Jersey basket.
I just spoke with Sarge and we are ready for Thursday..He wants us to help spread the word about his Meet and Greet to other families that may not know...he had mentioned when you decorate your hotel room door..maybe put a little message "Sarges Meet & Greet Thursday at Sundance Saloon"..he wants everyone to know and he can't stress this enough..it's OKAY if you cannot donate anything..he just wants everyone to have a hot meal..he says just being there to support your sailor is enough!! So help spread the word when you check into your hotel..make sure everyone knows..Let PIR 4/25 have the BIGGEST crowd ever!! There's going to be a TON of information provided as well so don't miss out!! It's starts at 5pm so come join us!! HOOYAH!!!!
Before you ladies get mad, I have been sick since yesterday when I hopped in the plane, I got some food virus. I was not able to buy anything for our basket. I have a mug from Starbucks that says California so if I can add it to someone's let me know please. I'll be at the meet and greet tonight and doing much better today. Only slept 3hrs but I'm gonna nap right now :)
