Hello! My boyfriend just joined the Navy but does not leave for boot camp until April (Thank goodness I have some time to prepare myself .) We started dating when we were 14, our freshmen year of high school. We're both 19 now and live together. He's my best friend and we plan on getting married sometime after boot camp. I've tried doing research on my own but who know better then girls who have actually been through it? I just really want to know what to expect, what not to do, hear any advice or experiences, and just have people I can talk to really. :)

NessaC27: Wow! Reading your whole story feels like I'm reading my own. I met my boyfriend my sophomore year of high school and were high school sweethearts also and we both are now 19 too and plan to get married sometime soon! I understand completely what you're going through. My boyfriend left in February and will be graduating very soon. The first week or two is ALWAYS the hardest so just keep you chin up and write him as often as you can. He needs the support from you! Lol I understand getting upset if he doesn't write you. By the time I got two letters from my boyfriend I saw another girl getting like six from hers. Don't let it get to you. It's not that he just doesn't want to talk to you, trust me he does, he's just busy! Some of the recruits are busier than others and need more time to study than others so don't take it personally. You are his support system and he needs as much love and support from you as possible. My boyfriend told me all the letters I sent him kept him strong and helped him to get through it so write as much as you can, send pictures too he'll love it! And if you ever need to talk you can always talk to me because it sounds like our stories are pretty similar and we are going through the same things :)
Oh and also don't take it personally that he didn't use it to call you! My boyfriend didn't either, but instead of focusing on the fact he didn't call you, try to focus on the fact that he is safe and made it okay! I know you wanted to hear from him but you will soon so don't worry! I Just try to focus on the fact that he is safe and you will talk to him soon. It's so easy to focus on the negatives and why he might not have called but it's not worth it, it will tear you apart. So focus on the positives and just be there for him because he will need you more than ever! And I can almost guarantee you there's not a huge reason why he didn't call you. It was probably just an instinct to call his parents, maybe since everyone else was calling theirs? I wouldn't worry too much about it though just keep positive!
Yup, just keep that attitude where you're prepared for the worst and hope for the best. And he will honestly probably write you more than you think. Being in boot camp is such an emotional situation and it really makes them more in touch with their feelings than ever before so he will write you because he will need you so bad. I bet now that he's in there he is probably missing you like crazy and will write when he can. I still only got 1 letter a week, he sent them out on Sundays and I got one every Thursday once he could actually start sending out letters. So check your mail box extra carefully on Thursdays! And just remember, this is more about him than it is about you (Not trying to sound mean and let me explain!) All I mean is he will need as much letters from you as possible to support and encourage him because boot camp is so hard. So try to send him letters even if he isn't writing you too much. I honestly just used my boyfriend as a diary haha and I wrote everything I was feeling, thinking, and did that day. It made it easier for the both of us because I got to vent and he liked hearing about home and what's been going on because it took his mind off of being there! That's what I recommend doing, it worked well for me! And thank you I just got the "I'm a sailor" call today so yes I'm pretty excited! He will be a gunnersmate and yes I do! I will privately message it to you :)
