Hey Ladies,

You guys were such great help the first time i had questions, so its only right that i seek you alls expert advice again? So my fiance is really concerned about being sent to japan as his first permanent station with my still trying to finish up my last year of college and having our 1 year old. How likely is it that they will send him there (even if he doesnt put it on his "dreamsheet") with dependents?

Thanks in advance!

It isn't that likely to get it if it is not on his dreamsheet many times the only people who go to japan on their first permanent duty station are the ones who want to and have it on their dreamsheet.

Thanks

Thanks

The odds?  Hard to tell without knowing his rate, and well, what the Navy needs.  It is a definite possibility, but no one can say for sure if  it is a probability.   I've filled out enough dream sheets myself to know they are just that, especially coming out of A school.  The Navy sends them where they need warm bodies.  That is how I ended up on Diego Garcia, and yes, Japan.

To take dependents overseas, he must be an E-4, and must be married before he receives his orders.  Japan is especially problematic as dependents must be command sponsored, a process which is not guaranteed if the sailor gets unaccompanied orders and puts in to have dependents arrive later.   Do you plan on marrying soon?  I understand why he is worried.  I hope it goes well, and he gets a good stateside homeport.

I just graduated college but I was just as worried as you were about my husband being sent overseas since he's only E2. You just kind of have to wait it out and be patient which was hard cuz I was stressing about school and orders. I was all prepared for a ship and deployments when he called and said we were stationed on an air force base and shore duty at that which I heard is super rare for the first set of orders! I don't know what your fiances job is but I know they're still sending people here cuz its fairly new and the navy needs them. Like everyone else said its really about what the navy wants. Good luck and keep hope alive!

Wow!  So glad for you!    Shore duty right away is rare for most rates... what is his?

And did you get to take your vacation?  I know you were trying to plan one.

It is possible.  He will go where the Navy needs him, no matter what his dream sheet has on it.  The dream sheet is just a wishlist of locations.  The detailer does not have abide by it or take it into consideration when assigning orders.  Your best bet is to just relax and let it go.  Neither you or your husband  can affect where he will be assigned.  Some will say that graduating at the top of the class in A-School or being married will help but those rare cases are few and far between.
