OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

My son is leaving June 17th for bc also

My son leaves on the 18th too.

My son also leaves for bc on the 18th. Is Great Lakes the only bc location?

I believe so. Back in the day, there was also Orlando Florida, but not anymore. It's so good to talk to other moms whose kids are leaving around the same time. It's a unique experience.

Yes, GL is the home of the Navy's only Recruit Training Command at this time.

My son leaves on the 17th.

My son leaves on June 19th. Having mixed emotions right now. I am sure I will be a basket case on the 19th. Does anyone know if you are allowed to go to the airport to see them off if so what is the process for doing so? He is leaving from Fort Meade, MD to BWI airport.

You will need to go with him to the airline counter to get a courtesy/guest/gate pass (sometimes called a companion pass) so you can wait with him until his flight--you will need photo ID. Some airlines count shipping off to the RTC as a valid reason to allow family members to have the pass and others don't. Call the airport and see what their policy is. Also some recruits (yes, he will be a recruit at that point since he will have been sworn in) don't want loved ones at the airport at that point. Find out your future Sailor's preference.
