My daughter just started her Senior year in HS but took her oath this past June.  She is excited and I am extremely proud of her.  She knows what she'll be doing (F/T cook) and even though she wasn't looking forward to that job at first, she is starting to think it's a great opportunity for her now.  I am not too nervous right now as her departure isn't for another 10 months, but I'm glad to have found a community that can help me understand what will be going on and encourage and uplift me as the date gets closer.  I am looking forward to being a more active participant in this group.

M4W....I'm right there with you! I think the support system we will find here together because we will be going through this at the same time will be what helps us more than anything. It's great to hear about the success stories of others who have already made it through this incredibly hard time, but being able to cry "real time" together will help even more.
I will also keep all the kids and moms in my prayers!

Hello I don't how Boot Camp manages to put people in their units but son ship out date 7/7/2014.  His job Culinary Specialist.  He was previously a student at a college, graphic artist, hobby is cooking.  However he does not fly into O'Hare he will be waiting with group for others that will be flying in.  So we shall see!

Hi Master of Motivation! I am not sure about boot camp dates as you are talking about it either.  My son says he is leaving July 9, but we are really close to Chicago-I guess that might be why some are on the 8th and you are on the 7th.  Is that what you were kind of asking about? I always want to ask the recruiter to clarify it for me, but I keep forgetting.  I guess it is getting too close to keep forgetting .LOL. Excited for my son on the new venture.  I have only heard how important CS people are to the whole thing-great to have you aboard!

Hi there Mom_Master of Motivation
Looks like we both have a son shipping out the same day as well as being a Culinary Specialist:)

HELP!!! My son is supposed to be leaving in 1 month and he's now thinking he made the wrong decision and wants to get out! He's planning on going to his recruiter today to tell him and I'm beside myself because he's about to make the biggest mistake of his life! Has anyone else gone through this?

Every comment on this post is so familiar to me! My son is a 4yr ROTC student, 1st year he was cadet of the year, Drill Team and so on. Last two years he knew he was already going in as an E3 and so the ROTC program became more of an easy A class since he already knew everything. He has been counting down to his July 9 leave date (to go to MEPS) and then all of a sudden in May he started telling me he did not like the job he was getting and felt he was forced into it (PR). I decided to take a peek at his Twitter and FB and realized that he was finally coming to terms with leaving his friends that he has hung with since 1st grade and it finally started sinking in how his life will change very soon. Luckily I had a conversation with him about how once summer is over every one of those friends lives will change whether it be full time jobs, away to school and so on. This seemed to get him back on track. Also, he enlisted in Delayed Entry and with the Buddy program last August and so he is going in with one of his best friends. However, I have been completely stressed over a dang plantars wart on his foot. We have had several treatments and now were down to three weeks and just hoping and praying that it is small enough to not cause a DQ. He has already told me if he is DQd then he wont try again, this breaks my heart because I too know this is what is best for him. This is so stressful and although I am going to miss him so much, I really want July 10th to get here so I can stop stressing over the dang wart!!

Hi Staceybea12: I thought I was the only one wondering about feet.  My son had a toenail issue that comes and goes. I stress over it.  It is no big deal I have been told.  I am not familiar with the term "DQ". I can't think a wart is a big deal - is it?  I understand with these last few days everything worries me. I hope all goes well.

DQ=Disqualified; My sons wart is looking better but still just a little dark red/black dot so I hope it will be overlooked. Were so close now...

From what I understand, since our recruits have been through MEPS and they might not even look at that area. It should all be fine. We haven't even started getting ready much because we are on vacation. Hope all goes well. I'm sure it will. Stay positive:)

NO, they will look at it. Your future Sailors will have another physical prior to being sworn in. Even a small cut or blister on the hand, foot, or knee could cause a recruit to not be able to ship.

staceybea12, If it is not healed, he may not be DQd, but he could be delayed in shipping to give it time to heal so that he is fit for full duty and able to begin training without any conditions that would cause him problems.
