So my son is scheduled to leave the 12th, and my husband and I are wanting to attend the swearing in ceremony, but he can't tell me when it will be...would it be out of line to call the recruiting office and ask, or will that get him in trouble...:)

LPNavyMom, from what I've read on here, the swearing in could be anytime betwn 9am-12noon. Not a set time.  Just whenever MEPS completes paperwork, etc on all the recruits.

Also, "no" your recruit will not get in trouble if you call the recruiting office and ask.  They are willing to answer questions for family.

My grandson leaves tomorrow! 6/10-2014

Thans so much for the reply, and I did in fact call the recruiter and he helped me alot...counting down 'til tomorrow and then Thursday for the ceremony..trying to focus thoughts elsewhere, not working well tho...:), debating on whether I should drop him off @ recruiter's tomorrow afternoon, or let him drive and pick up his car...he might not want a boo hooing mom in the parking lot ...

Hi, I just got home from MEPS!  My grandson went to the recruiter yesterday--I had my husband take him. I knew I would CRY and didn't want to bring him down.  My husband ended up crying! Then when he came back home we both cried together!

Last night we picked up grandson from hotel and had dinner.

We met g.son at MEPS at 9am. this morning. (He had been transported by bus at 3:50am)! We sat, and sat, and sat some more until swearing in around noon. LOTS OF WAITING especially for the recruits!  There was lunch for all of them....about 13 of them, and Mine was the ONLY one that did NOT eat! That makes me worry!

Now he is being taken to the AIRPORT to wait a few more hours.  It is 1:20 and his plane doesn't leave until 7pm!  He's exhausted already. I don't know if THAT is part of the MASTER PLAN or just poor planning???

Anyway, he didn't want us to go to the airport.  He worked there at Starbucks and has friends/coworkers he will see right near the USO.

When we left MEPS (me, husband, and my daughter--recruit's mom) we all cried again.

Good luck! In a few weeks all this be done and we'll be proud !!

So we bought pizza (his favorite) had grandmother's over. And a quick visit for advise from my brother USMC retired, and he will drive himself to recruiters tomorrow while I am at work.  I did try to to talk but just couldn't get anything out but a big hugHave had 6 months to get ready and I guess it hit all at once..will see him Thu for swearing in and he will b off.. so now 10 weeks of worry   so wasn't prepared .. I know he will b fine, but I am sure going to miss him.

No it would not be out of line to call them.  He will not get in trouble for that.  My son's recruiting office was very helpful with all of that information.

I did break down and call them and right you are, they were very helpful.. he is there now, swearing in in the am...not getting much work done.

My son swore in and left yesterday...so I know exactly how you are feeling right now.  Saying goodbye to him was probably the hardest thing I have done in my life. However, I know that he made a good decision and I am very proud of him.  That has made the last 24hours a little easier to get through.  Hang in there!

Trying, boss told me "don't come in to work" after the ceremony, but I figure if I can stay busy, I won't be sobbing anyway, they just won't be allowed to talk to me.

I just catch myself starting to cry for no reason whatsoever...and I swear if someone say "he will be fine" one more time, I may just thump them LOL

I think it is not only the missing, but knowing I can't protect him anymore (which I have probably done too much of anyway), that scares me the most..
Thanks for the e mail...I am going to try really hard to be strong :) (well stronger anyway)

My son left on the 13th. Have any of you received the box yet?
