Choose your Username. For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

my son leaves July 1
This is my first time posting here so if I am doing it wrong I apologize in advance :)
My son leaves July 1, 2014 for boot camp - I was a Navy spouse so I am no stranger to absence but having my son being the one going away this time has me feeling so different. I am thankful for all the helpful posts that I have been reading for other people feeling the same way. I couldn't be prouder of him and the choice he made and the man he is about to become, but the selfish mommy part of me doesn't want him to grow up.

My son leaves for BC on the same day. You can learn do much on the N4M site. Read as much as you can. Feel free to ask questions if you need to. I'm super proud, but sad at the same time. I'm so grateful for my husband and my Navy Moms to help us get through this big step.

Dawn/Tygarmom, my son also flies to Great Lakes today (7/1) to begin boot camp. :) I already have one other son serving in the Navy, so at least I have a little experience with this process and also this wonderful web site. My other son is younger than this one, though. This one will probably be one of the oldest, as he just turned 25 a couple of weeks ago. He is a wonderful young man, but he was floundering and looking for direction in his life. I pray this will be the beginning to leading him on a successful path! He is from Houston, TX. I will be watching the web site for when someone begins the group he will be placed in. Lori

Lori, I'm waiting patiently at MEPS with him - he is heading out in a little bit for the airport to wait for everyone to fly in. I also am looking forward to the group being started - so many questions to come...being here watching him interact is actually helping me cope. However leaving here and not taking him home may be a differnt story - I believe your son(s) along with mine and the others that have chosen this path will all succeed and do great things. The hardest part for me is today and letting go...wishing us all strength

Dawn, I know today is hard. For me, though, it is a little different, because mine is actually excited about this new path, which is a change for him. It makes me excited to see him excited about something having to do with his future! :) He called me from the airport before they got on the plane. As I type this, they are on their way up to Chicago. I know your son will do great. I guess you know that the first month or so they are really tough on them, but after they get past that point, they start encouraging and uplifting them, so remind him of that if/when he writes and feels discouraged. Our job is to encourage them, as I am sure you know. :)

My son flew out June 30th to Great Lakes, we are in Tomball area (Pinehurst) - he is 22, was living at home, not working, struggling with visions of his future....intelligent but lacking ambition. He fought with joining for almost a year....finally made it in (took a LOT of red tape to cut through, as he is a cancer survivor)
I'm so worried - hoping desperately for him to find his niche. He really wanted this, but nto the position he signed up as...
