Choose your Username.  For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either).  Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username.  While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups!  Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself!  Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility. 

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.  

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

my son leaves July 1

This is my first time posting here so if I am doing it wrong I apologize in advance :)

My son leaves July 1, 2014 for boot camp - I was a Navy spouse so I am no stranger to absence but having my son being the one going away this time has me feeling so different. I am thankful for all the helpful posts that I have been reading for other people feeling the same way. I couldn't be prouder of him and the choice he made and the man he is about to become, but the selfish mommy part of me doesn't want him to grow up.

What is his contract for? What rating (job/specialty) or did he sign with one of the PACT programs?

I don't know what a PACT program is.  He originally wanted NUKE, made a 95 on his asvab and passed his nuke tests but then they wanted his high school transcripts.  He was on top of the world.  So proud of himself.  But he didn't do well in high school.  Never failed, but barely tried.  They denied him for this and the only job available (supposedly) was cook. 
This boy has never had any interest in food, (he's even a vegetarian)  I worry this is not the right choice for him.  He is such an engineer type mentality.  I was really hoping for something he would enjoy and make a career out of, not just accepting what was available last minute.  His contract is for CSS (I believe that is culinary specialist submarine?)  He is very excited though!!  He is a stubborn one, if he puts his mind to it, he can do anything. 

I got a fedex package with only his binder, a debit card and his phone.  that concerns me, isn't everyone else getting boxes with their civilian clothing?

He must have chosen to trash or donate his clothing rather than pay for shipping those home. See Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.

My son was a nuke officer on a sub. Just want to let you know that every sailor on a submarine knows more than just the stuff within his own area of expertise. He will have plenty of opportunities to show his geeky intellect. Who knows.... he can use his GI Bill to complete a college degree - in any field of his choosing. He can always apply later on for the Officer Candidate School program after he graduates - he'll probably be a shoot-in for the nuke program.

I'm hoping!!  He sounded great when I talked ot him Sunday.  They put him in charge of education for his division...(i forget the acronym he gave for the position) He sounded GREAT

Hi my son also left for BC on 7/1. My oldest son enlisted 3 years ago but unfortunately was sent home after a few weeks due to a medical issue. Praying that nothing goes wrong for this one! It is nerve wracking for sure but having gone through it before and the information from my other son about what is happening in the beginning of bootcamp is helpful.

My son left for BE on July 1st but I'm a newby that's not doing to good. My curiosity and fear of what is going on has me not sleeping very well. I have read the horror stories and am in such fear he is going through this as well. I keek saying to myself he is at summer camp to help me get through the day.
