Our son left today, and when we arrived at Meps to be present for the swearing in, ironically as we were signing in someone came over to the person at the desk and said there was a problem with our sons paperwork. They didn't know who we were. So come to find out they were rejecting his documentation for his Sea Cadets program and they weren't processing him through as an E3. Thank goodness we were there. Apparently there was an audit a few months back and they didn't want the paperwork to say "copy" which all the papers are stamped copies, because obviously the sea cadet program keeps the originals. I was able to call his CO from the sea cadet program and he was able to fax the originals, and my son was able to leave with his proper paperwork and rank in order. His recruiting officer had just gone over this with us last Wednesday, so not sure if anyone else may have a child with this situation, but I would suggest you have your child make sure the recruiter sends up "original" documentation or make sure the recruiter receives confirmation from MEPS that their paperwork was accepted!

Thanks for the info.  My son went to Sea Cadets as well (will be getting E3). Can I ask when they discovered this? Just curious if my son has gone through the same thing.  He went to Milwaukee for MEPS all day today (July 8). And tomorrow (9th) a quick physical and then to GL.  Was the problem the first day-or second.  I have a feeling I will be up tonight.

This happened yesterday morning at MEPS before  the swearing in, and before he flew out to Chicago.  I am assuming they go over their paperwork with them before they officially swear in and sign their paperwork (they use a fingerprint now).

My son seemed to have hit a snag as well.  His recruiter is working to fix it.  Sounds like yours.  I have not had contact with anyone-you were lucky to be there.  I am glad you gave me a heads up.  I am talking to the recruiter tomorrow to see what has happened.  Meanwhile...we got "the call".   It will all be fine.  I just hope he gets credit for the work & testing he has done.

Oh no! I was told that two months ago there was an audit, and they changed some of the guidelines for the paperwork. I hope it all works out for you as well and glad you got the call. I must admit my husband and I are having a heck of a time with the adjustment, our son was the baby so we are empty nesters now and neither of us imagined we would feel this way! We don't even like to be in the house! Lol. I'm glad at least he is on the same page as I am, I don't feel so alone!

Sounds like they got the issue all straightened out.  He will be an E3. But still waiting for box and letter.
