I like to send my son a goodie box every couple weeks. I know he has a microwave/refrigerator in his room and that he does go off base just about every weekend so I guess could go buy what he wants, but I enjoy doing it. Any suggestions of things to send? I do send some snack items but don't want to overdo it and have him having to do extra PT - what are some things you all have sent to your sailors that they have enjoyed? Melody

Suzanne,
Hi there! My son is an ET in Power School...! I too just joined the group today.
Yes the fresh cookies and brownies seem to be a hit! I pack in Ziplock bags and put in a tin. It sounded like they were enjoyed by all. I usually do the flat rate box at the post office and it has seemed affordable.
Mom's cooking seems to be what they need....Best of wishes to your son in A school.
Many Blessings,
Yvette
Thanks Yvette, and to all the other Nuke moms who submitted comments. I baked this weekend, packed the cookies tonight, and will ship tomorrow (I have the priority mail supplies.) I'll let you all know how they arrive. God Bless of each of you and your sailors!
The cookies arrived today, in great shape! Thanks to everyone for their packing tips.
how many days did it take?
Three days. I sent USPS priority mail. They said it would take 2-3 days and it took 3. And not a broken chocolate chip:-)
Do they only get to wear civvies in the rooms?  Surely they wear uniforms to class?  I'm just trying to figure out what kind of goodie packages to send to my son, Mike.  These tips have been great - you ladies have given me some ideas to include in my next package.
Civies are earned. By Phase II, they can wear them on weekends, as well as request an over night chit (ie for hotel if you visit them.) At Phase III, they get more liberties, including staying out all night on weekends (no chit required). Our son got to spend Columbus Day weekend with us and only had to go on base for his required study time. It was great! Had missed hearing that late night snack check that he always did.
Check out Jake Gallagher's blog if you haven't yet--he's been through Nuke School.
If you are interested in sending sweets ( I know my son loves when I send him these) especially for the Holiday season you can go to CherylandCo.com .... you can purchase online and they will send to military at no cost. Another item our sailors need desperately are the black socks they wear practically everyday while working ( the kind that are padded). You can find them at JC Penny or at the NEX ... beside the white t-shirts it seems that our sailors go through socks like crazy .... they are always on their feet and walking.

Hope this helps!
Thanks ladies. This gave me some other ideas of things we can send our Nuke out on his ship. Another mom had told me about the sock thing. It's nice to know JCPenney has the same kind.
What is the brand of black socks to send?
im sorry i didnt realize this was an older post but if someone could tell me the best kind of socks (i know padded but any particular brand you know that is a hit?) to get my boyfriend who is in power school so i can send them in his care package, i would greatly appreciate it! also do they have to be black?
