My oldest baby will be swearing in and leaving on the 18th. We are having a "anchors away" dinner for him on Sunday before we drop him off at his hotel. We will then meet him at meps the next morning for his final swear-in and see him off. If any of you have any tips for me or last minute ideas before he leaves, please feel free to share! I am going to be lost without him, he is my rock. I have 3 younger boys at home ages 8, 3, and 2. This is going to have such a great effect on my entire family but I am super proud of him. He is going in as a Nuke and of course all of the reading I have done on that has scared the crap out of me. I hope he can handle the load, he's a very bright child but he's never had to study before. I'm nervous, proud, sad, happy, etc etc! Again any advice is greatly appreciated!

Hello! My son left on the 5th. Very emotional then & still. We had several dinners before he left. Family & then he had one with just his friends.
I followed some advice I got from everyone on this site. I did get my hands on his wallet & put a note of encouragement in it as well as a prayer. Told him to pull it out & read it when he was having a bad time. I held most of my tears back until he wasn't around. I did breakdown once right before he left but there was nothing I could do to stop it & I think he knew that.
My son will be going to school for Nukes also. He had said he was more nervous about school than BC. Which I thought was crazy. I know it won't be easy but (lucky for him) school ahs always been easy. I told him your getting paid to go to school & the school is paid for. That will be your job. I have failth in him.
Be strong and good luck to you, your son & family.
Thank you so much! I have read a lot of good info on this site and am very thankful for it and for everyone on here. Best wishes to your son as well and the entire family of course :-)
My son leaves Tues the 19th. I am going to the 7 day meeting tomorrow. sigh.
mine has his 7 day tomorrow too :-(
Thank you, one plus is that I have 3 more kids at home (9 yr boy, almost 4 yr boy, and a 2 yr old boy) that will keep me on my toes and fairly busy but I'm dreading cleaning up his room. It needs it BAD! I'm obviously not "moving" him out because anything can happen however I will be doing a very thorough cleaning and it's going to be a very emotional thing for me lol.
Thank you and good luck to you and yours as well. I know what you mean about him being your rock. This one is my oldest from a previous marriage and we have been through a lot together! He's hard headed and will argue with a fence post, I can tell him the grass is green and he will tell me why it's not actually green lol. My son is leaving out of Houston, TX. We take him downtown Houston on Sunday to his hotel room and then we will return to watch him swear-in and hopefully accompany him at the airport. I have been an emotional wreck. Last year when he entered the DEP I thought this time would never get here. Now it's 3 days away and I hate it but I'm super proud!
Sorry I haven't replied, our computer and my phone were both giving me trouble. My son is going in as Nuke but he had a really tough time yesterday. He begged me to come get him before he was sworn in and as bad as I wanted to deep in my heart I know that there is nothing in the little country area we live in for him. He's too smart to stay here and I couldn't let my selfishness and his impulsiveness get in the way of his future. We did watch him swear in and while we were there he was fine but before we got there and after we left he pretty much called me every name in the book and told me what an awful mother i was for giving him up. This whole military thing was his idea but when it came down to it yesterday morning I think he got scared/nervous and he was experiencing every emotion possible. I did get the call last night at 10:45 that he was there so I'm praying that he is ok.. I've cried off & on all day but in my heart I know he needs this!
Some do go through the second (third and fourth) thoughts about their decision to join before shipping. My son did and he has now been in for 6 years.
