My 18 year old son leaves Aug.12,2014 for Boot Camp... I cant remember him being so excited about anything. I am excited for this new adventure in his life. The Mom in me has my worries.  I have never felt so lost as a parent. What I can do to help my son prepare for this HUGE life changing event?

I'm open to any and all information...

Kat, Mine has been grumpy for about a month.  It's been a little disappointing because we've had a very nice vacation, a few smaller trips & a lot of family & friend parties over the summer.  He's been pretty grouchy for all of that.

I get a lot of my information from here & the FB pages. But honestly when I want to know something from my sons, I make it as easy as possible for them to answer my questions.  For example, I know it is not important, but I want to know if he's in an integrated division (male & female) or all male.  I also want to know if he's on the top or the bottom bunk.  So rather than write a letter that is purely paragraph after paragraph of what he think was stupid questions, I send a questionnaire.  He can fill in the blanks with short answers & send it back to me.

That is a great idea. I will remember that and try to make it fun for him. We were just talking at dinner and he was wondering if they get to listen to music at all in BC? It old him i would ask my navy Momos :)
They don't get to listen to music at Bootcamp.

My son Left today... He was so happy . glad to see he is following his dreams... but as a mom I worry I guess that normal. Many Tears of sadness and Joy.

My son is on his way there now....he should be landing in Chicago anytime now.

My oldest son left on August 12 as well.  What a roller coaster ride of emotions.  My husband was Navy as well and I understand the life...but it was still so hard to let him go.  I know he is excited and ready for this adventure...I think the hardest part is not being able to check in with him.

Well I got that scripted phone call last night. It was crazy I felt like I could hear everyone saying the same thing at the same time... I am so proud of my son right now. As a mom I wish I could just shoot him a text message and get a response but well guess that will have to wait a few weeks :).

Good Luck to all our future Sailors at bootcamp together... and cheers to all us Mom and Dads that raised Son's and Daughters that are serving our country.

My son was so jazzed to go it made that day a bit easier. It's always been hard for me to be anything but happy when that boy smiles (always kept him out of trouble). Sheila I don't know how you do it - I can't even enter my son's room or bath room. I sent my older son lots of post cards when he was in boot camp and he loved them. I sent some with pictures of our home state (wyoming) and I used postagram to send pictures of family, pets, and his favorite places around town. The loss of instant communication is the hardest. God speed ladies! We will make it through this!

Husband just texted me to say the box came today.  Kinda don't want to go home now.

My son left the 12th as well.  Have you received the form letter yet?  I got his belongings last Friday.

I have not received anything yet.... But I figure he said 2 weeks so I'm just sitting tight. you know wondering how he is holding up... and wanting him to tell me everything.. lol..

I'm in CA not sure if your closer to IL

I got it!  Left work early to check then had enough time to get a letter to the post office before last pick up! I feel a little better now!
