Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Welcome to the Division Discussion for Divisions 297 and 298
These two divisions are brother divisions and will be training together from the beginning through BS21 their final test. Your SRs, soon to be SAILORS, are becoming friends, and some of them may be heading to A School together.
Get to know each other, your SRs are!
Please still use the Main Wall of the PIR Group to post questions, and concerns, we “veteran” moms don’t always get to into the discussion area as often as we would like.

Thanks, Bygrace. I got to talk with my SR again this morning (more security clearance stuff...I could just kiss this officer who is doing his paperwork for letting my son call home while he waits!) and confirmed he DID send his clothes home along with his cell phone. So maybe the larger box is taking longer than just a cell phone shipped home. Diannep said the wait time for the box varies greatly, taking a couple of weeks sometimes. Not going to panic yet and give Fed Ex a few more days . . .
Hang in there, Bygrace. Keep writing to him . . . hopefully your son had a chance to write you back yesterday. My SR said they didn't have much down time on Sunday but enough to scribble one little note to me.

My daughter is Div 297. We received her box, with clothing and cell phone both, about a week ago. We also got a call on Saturday, but no letters.

Got a call from my son on Saturday morning, and he sounded absolutely terrible. Not handling things well at all, and we are a US Navy family. Received a call from him again this morning, and he is better, but he said his division is staying in trouble. Ship 11 Div 298. Said that one RDC has ASMOd about 15 people. He is worried that he will get ASMOd or sent home. Two of his quad mates are already gone. It is hard to keep things positive with that negativity coming from the RDCs. I know that an RDCs job is to tear them down and see if they can handle it, but my SR is really worried about being ASMOd now.

My son is Ship 11 DIV 298 and was in years when I spoke to him on Saturday. He said he's having trouble getting the hang if things, but that they like how hard he's trying. And I've heard a mom on hear that they are getting in trouble. Brie long until you find out they are ASMOD'd?

I received a phonecall from my son this past Saturday (div 298) - he sounded OK, said he was homesick and looking forward to PIR on the 19th. He's on laundry duty and said he now knows how to fold clothes into little neat squares! lol.
I was concerned reading CarthageNavyMom's comment about the division being in trouble - anyone else worried? Do a few 'bad apples' push the PIR date back for the entire division? I would guess as long as they are behind - we will not be getting anymore phonecalls. =(
I still miss my soon-to-be sailor son terribly.

One more thing - when I talked to my son Saturday (8/9), he did say he had received letters but was not able to send any out until Sunday (8/10).

I received my SR's first letter yesterday (8/13), written last Sunday (8/10)! Woohoo! Pretty short but informative. Doesn't enjoy standing watch. (Who would?) He's liking that training is finally getting to the more interesting stuff. Told me he's talked with a few recruits in "older" divisions who all told him the division/training will all start to gel in the next week or so.

I got five letters today. He's homesick and worried because he's a slow learner. On the bright side, he's got a buddy trying to help him out.

I got My letters yesterday too they were short but he is happy and that is all that matters! He said he cannot wait to hear My voice he misses me and he knows this is the right path for him, reading that just made My heart smile!

In my son's letter he mentioned there is a particular guy helping him out. He said they call each other by last names. I'm not going to write out the whole name, but if you're son's last name begins with "Am", you did a great job as a mom. I'm so grateful Tim has someone helping him out.

I received 2 letters today =) Dated 8/4 & 8/10. So happy to hear from him! He's homesick but doing OK. He said so far it's not too bad. Looking forward to receiving letters now on a regular basis hopefully. Helps some but I still miss him terribly!
