Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

What school is he in? Most people would recommend that they get married before he finishes school so she can be on his orders & they will pay to move her if he is stationed stateside.
Depending on what school he is in they may require him to go to some classes. He needs to submit a marriage chit to his chain if command & they will tell him what steps he needs to take. If you know what school he's in some of the girls here whose husbands/fiancés have been through that school may have more specific advice. Depending on how far after his school, if he is already checked into his first command, it may be different.
He may get some time off after school to come home but he has to request leave as it gets closer from his school command & not his new ship command. They really try to give them some time off between school & going to their first ship so he could be able to come home. -

I know his prep school is on gl and it is about 8 weeksa I think. So should be submit paperwork when he starts his prep school. They have a date in December in mind and would like to try for that date also will they let him fly home to get married?

Because I don't know which school he will be in, I can only give you general answers. Straight talk, it is not happy news.
If his A school is at Great Lakes also, they will NOT let him take leave until the holiday stand down. That's the two weeks around Christmas. The official dates will be announced sometime in November. I'm guessing somewhere from the 21st to just after New Year's Day. Guessing. Anything in the first three weeks? Not happening.
If his A school is elsewhere, he MIGHT be able to take leave between Great Lakes and his new destination. Maybe. But probably not, as every training command has the holiday stand down and they prefer students all take leave then.
If he is going to a ship, he would get leave in between the two places as determined by his given travel dates.
The Navy's schedule will set their wedding date, they need get that straight in their minds right now. Getting married is not a high priority to the Navy. Student sailors rarely get to take leave outside of the stand down or when transferring. Almost never.

Thanks for the info... I believe he will be done with prep right around the holiday stand down and then will move to the next school. So if that is the case and they usually have the holiday stand down then they will have a wedding then. She is ok with anytime in December. Reality is what we want and I have advised her that its not really about the "date" but that he comes home and they can be married then. It does make it a little difficult to plan but I will have everyone on stand by and when he comes home we will have a wedding!

Yes, look at the calendar, and give it a best estimate. Sounds like flexibility will be a positive asset. As always, make sure any venue or vendor is willing to be last minute, and will refund in case the Navy is being a jerk. Look online for last minute wedding ideas, including "buying" a cancelled wedding!
Also, when it all happens, come back and share the experience for others to learn from. And if I am wrong, I need to know! Always learning, and the Navy is a "moving target".
