My fiancé graduated from bootcamp on Oct.17 and is now at A School in Mississippi we want to get married in a small setting such as the court house but are a tad bit confused on where to even start. We understand that a chit form will be needed but what else? If anyone can help us out it would be greatly appreciated.

What are the steps that we need to take to make this happen?

I'm curious about this as well.

Hi! I actually just went through this in August with my husband, also in Mississippi! We got married when my husband was Phase 2 which was honestly a pain but we wanted to ensure I was on his orders! They can't leave base during the week so you have to do it on a Saturday! There are two judges through the courthouse that will come in and marry you on a Saturday! My husband started with calling the clerks office (the lady who worked with us was named Donna! She was SO nice and helpful!) if you aren't both 21 you have to have a parents consent to get married in MS! I didn't have that problem so I don't know much about how to handle that but I'm sure they will help you! You have to have your fiancé fill out the chit the week you are wanting to get married! If he is in phase 3 it's so much easier because he can ride in your personal vehicle if not you have to take the taxi! The cost of the marriage license was $21 and the judge to marry us was $75. If you have any questions feel free to ask! :)
Thank you so much.

So if you wait until phase 3 could you still be guaranteed to be on their orders? Also, do you have to do a courthouse wedding? Or could I plan a small wedding?

Phase 3 simply means they can spend the night out on weekends, and have a few other privileges. Nothing to do with orders, other than possibly the timing.  It is nicer to spend the night together than to have to take him back to base the evening of your wedding.

You need to be married, and on his page two, about four weeks before he should be getting his orders.

You do not have to do a courthouse wedding, but that is usually simplest if you do not live near his school.  When it comes time for you to move, you will need cash at hand, because they no longer pay up front, it is reimbursement.  There are always costs out of pocket associated with a move and setting up a new place.  A wedding is nice, but you are going to have to balance that with getting to, and setting up, a new home.

Did you have to contact the court and is the court close to the base?
You have to get ahold of one of the judges who will agree to do a Saturday wedding at the courthouse and then you will get your marriage license right before you get married but you will have to have it filled out prior to the day! The court house was about 20 minutes from base! I stayed at the NGIS on base everytime I went except for the weekend of the ball.. It was a very good price and spacious room! It depends on how fast they phase up or start their program.. My husband was on hold for the YN school for 3 weeks and is now in C school so we still haven't received our orders.. It probably depends upon the judge if he would meet you somewhere I do know there is an ordained minister that is willing to do small weddings. So to answer your question about phase 3.. You can get phased up and phased down for many different things there. Once my husband was phase 3 he could spend the weekend with me and it was better than the first visit when I had to take him back by 9, but they do stand watch every 3 days so make sure you account for this when picking a date!
My fiancé is on hold at A school but he has already been phased up to phase III, this will be his second week on hold but he has no clue of when his classes will start or how long A school is. How long was your husband in YN school?
They were finished in 5 weeks.. There were people in his class that had been there for a month before they ever started class though. You can find the length of all the schools online, I'm pretty sure!
I am on the hunt for a judge, by any chance do you remember the judge that ordained your ceremony or how you got in contact with him?
Judge Robinson married us, the ladies at the circuit court office gave us the number but I don't have it anymore! 601-482-9731 there's the number for the courthouse and they will give you the number for the judge!
