My boyfriend just left for BC two days ago, so I know I'm thinking a little bit ahead, but I was curious as to what the attire for those attending PIR is? Is it just casual wear or a little bit more?

Emirosebuds44,
First of all, congratulations on your BF joining the Navy. Secondly, hang on through the roller coaster ride of emotions coming your way. I am a mom to a son who left 20 days ago, and it has been tough. The PIR is like any other graduation. I am wearing a sweater dress and boots. We are from the pacific NW and are not accustomed to the cold winters there. There are TONS of resources here, especially if you look under the heading of pages. There are also FB groups too:)
All the best
Thank you for the info! Yes, I'm so proud of him and excited for him! It's been really rough so far, and I'm an emotional mess, but he's incredible and definitely worth waiting for :) I'm from southern Louisiana and Mississippi so we're not accustomed to that either haha! A sweater dress, boots, leggings, and a good coat sounds perfect then :) Thank you again for the reply! Hope your son's doing well!

I always tell people to remember that your Sailor is wearing a dress uniform. I wore a sweater, dress slacks and boots and a long wool coat out of respect for the event and since it was 2 March and there had been snow. I agree....it is a roller coaster ride but so worth it.  PIR is the most impressive graduation I have seen (and I have been to my Corpsman's A school and FMTB graduations). There is nothing like it when those doors roll open and the divisions march in so crisp.  I still get choked up thinking about it.

Emirosebuds44:  PIR is a very special day.  And the ceremony is most formal.  Lots of pomp and circumstance.  And if the guest of honor is high up in the chain of command, the ceremony is extra special for that person.  My family got dressed up out of respect for the ceremony.  My daughter and my son's girlfriend both wore nice slacks, boots, and sweaters.  My husband in navy dockers and a sport coat.  I, too, wore navy blue and white for the occasion.  I even put on high heels.  My family thought I was nuts and my feet were a bit cold while we waited on line to get in, but I didn't care.  All the photos we took after the ceremony and throughout the day came out beautiful.  PLUS, that's one of the few time you will get to see your sailor in that uniform so take full advantage of the photo ops.  Also, every Friday the PIRs are live on the internet.  You can watch a PIR in advance so you know what you're in for.  I watched about six before I left for Great Lakes, but seeing it live is unbelievable!!!!  Good Luck!

Wow as a mom I feel really dumb. I had not even thought about the weather. Being from Florida. Hello, What was I thinking a pair of dress pants and blouse with a light sweater you would wear into a restaurant. I guess I am going to have to find or borrow some winter clothes.
