Good evening to all! My son is leaving for boot camp tomorrow and I am on this rollercoaster of emotions, as I am sure all of you have endured. From feeling extremely proud to brokenhearted it's a new emotion almost by the minute. I am grateful for this site, and I hope to learn a lot from it. He hasn't even officially left yet, but I am already anxious about getting that first phone call and handwritten letters from him. He is at the hotel now to go to MEPS in the morning and I feel lost without him already. He is my one and only and being single, I am completely alone for the first time in so very long. I've got plenty to keep me busy - my job, school and I plan on getting out of the house and doing things that I might enjoy, but still can't help feeling lost right now. Does it get easier? I know I still get to see him tomorrow before his flight leaves and I held up pretty good over the weekend but I just got home from dropping him off and I am now I am a complete mess. Thanks for reading and God bless all of you moms and your children!

You will get used to the new normal, but yes, you will have times when you get teary eyed or more. I have those times and I've had a Sailor for over 6 1/2 years.

I left info for you on your My Page.

Wow, congratulations and thank you very much!

My "baby" left the 3rd to MEPS and the 4th hit Chicago.  He's the last of 6 kids (blended family)  I am going through culture shock myself, although I have a 21 year old college student kinda still at home (pet sits ALL the time and I never see her between her work/school/church/life).  It's definately a new world for us (Kids, military, empty nesting)

Yes, this site has been a blessing to me, as I have no idea what to expect, how to deal, what to do!  I read the post on sending letters, http://navyformoms.com/group/letter-writing-navy-moms/forum/topics/...  (I hope this link works)

I was as anxious as my son before he left.  He called me the morning of leaving MEPS, said he had a travel buddy and wasn't as anxious as before.  Totally relieved me!!  Then I got the "scripted" call...don't freak out!!  I am waiting on his "box" and yes, will probably leave it out and smell it daily!

I'm glad we have this site, I'd be freaking out if I couldn't come here...good luck to you!

Blessings and prayers!!

Thank you for your reply! Last night was really rough and even though we've had since last May to prepare for this day, it's a lot harder than I thought. This site really has been helpful and I'm sure I'll be on it a lot. Thank you for your prayers and blessings and the same to you and yours!

We just dropped off my oldest of 3 boys at the recruiter's office today for bootcamp. I took the day off as I anticipated being emotional, but that doesn't even begin to describe how I feel. This is much more difficult than I could have imagined. Looks like our boys will be at bootcamp together. I will pray for strength for both of us!

Well thank you and I will pray for both of us as well! This really is hard and today I am at work and have school to go to in a little while and I can't concentrate on anything. I'm wondering how he's doing, what's he's doing and praying he isn't sorry he made this choice. His father was in the Air Force and he called me to day to see how I am and I told him how worried I am about him and he promised me he would be fine and that I shouldn't worry so much. I hope you are doing better today! :)

My son went to MEPS today too. I have felt emotional all week at the thought of him leaving. He has been away at University for the last couple of years but having him home these past couple of months has been fabulous. I must say that today was really long but it was amazing. I could not take my eyes off of these handsome young men and beautiful young women who are willingly ready to serve our country. I felt very proud and also humbled to have been there today. It was hard to say goodbye, I squeezed him and kissed him and I felt at peace with the decision he has made to serve. I can't wait to hear all about his amazing adventure. I pray they will all have confidence in their own ability, strength and safety <3

Hi GrimboSue,

These young men and women really are incredible people and the pride I have for my son is just overwhelming. But I have to confess, last night was torture for me. I cried all the way home from work and I am so emotionally exhausted now! I hope you are doing well today. I am sure the emotions will come and go and I think just knowing we are going to have these precious creatures we created protecting our country is such an honor. I will keep you and your son in my prayers. I am so grateful to all who posted back to me. It's nice to know that I have all of this support. If you need to vent or cry, I am here!

jkissy247, Check your My Page.

Hi jkissy! I received my son's box on Thursday and then today I got his graduation information. It's been getting a little easier each but today is his birthday so that made it a little rough. But just getting the graduation info made my day! Good luck to you and your son!

johnsmom, Check your My Page.

My son has been in for a little over 3 years, i was a mess when he was in boot camp, now after SEER schools and deployments, i dont worry much anymore. I love seeing how independant and responsable he has become. So yes it gets easier with every advancement! Hang in there momma:)
