OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Extremely Stressful First PCS Move! Need Advice!
So we are int he process of our first PCS move. My husband just arrived in San Diego for C-school. All of our stuff is already there in storage. I will be driving out with the pets in 3 weeks. He showed up and they told him he's not allowed to live on base, he needs to find an apartment immediately. They're "letting" him stay until the end of the weekend. They also told him he can not start receiving San Diego BAH until we have an apartment in San Diego. So now we're in the position of trying to find an apartment in San Diego with Great Lakes BAH which is about $1000 difference. We were unaware of this, or we would have found living arrangements prior to him getting there! Why were we not told about this? We both went to the relocation office more than once to make sure everything straight. We received "travel pay" but not nearly enough to pay for a $1200-$1400 apartment, security deposits, shipping a car on top of all of my expenses while driving out. (gas, hotel, the miles I'm putting on the car)
They wouldn't ship his car so we paid to have it shipped out there so he could and people are telling me that the navy should reimburse us for it? Is this part of the dislocation allowance or will they actually pay us back?
Ahhh. Advice?

I haven't heard of being reimbursed for shipping a car.
Can he get to Navy Relief and see about an emergency short term loan?

Ok... Couple things - He'll get San Diego BAH starting when he checks in. It's prorated. You don't have to have an apartment. Navy will not reimburse for vehicle shipment. They only ship vehicles for overseas assignments. Technically, he should not get a room in the barracks if he's receiving BAH, so they are right on that one. He can go to the Gateway Inn and get a room cheaper than anywhere else. They may give him a special rate since he's "househunting" and just PCSed. It wouldn't hurt to ask. He can also take 10 days noncharged leave to go look for a house if you aren't going to rent in military housing. And since BAH for San Diego just went up about $300/month, unless you have a bunch of kids, I would not suggest military housing, you can probably get a better deal in town. To get the BAH straightened out or for more info on that, have him go to the PSD office.

He spent all day yesterday (and this entire past week) figuring everything out going back and forth between PSD and CPC. Spoke to multiple people. He checked in last monday and as of yesterday they told him, until he gets an apartment and provides the lease so he can change his Page 2, he will not get San Diego BAH. And the "new" BAH will start the day that the lease starts. Not the day he checked in. Its the exact opposite of what we were told when we left Great Lakes, but it is what it is.

If he checked in for C school instead of a permanent command, that may be why things are not as you expected.

yep, this is all because of c school. Its happening to all of our married friends he was in A school with. His friend took leave to see his wife and kids between a school and c school only to get there and realize he has to figure out how to move them all out to san diego immediately because he planned on living on base.

He got us an apartment and it will be ready to move in tomorrow. He's getting all of our things delivered on Saturday and our BAH and his BAS start tomorrow. We were able to pay the security deposit and rent for the remainder of feb. Depending on how they do our bah and bas and fsa in his next pay, we may or may not have to go back to navy relief and get a loan. BAH and BAS should only be for the last 10 days of Feb and we should have been getting separation allowance for the days before the 18th...... At least thats what they said, but we've been told a lot of things and I don't want to count my chickens so we'll see. I'm driving out on March 6th and set aside money for that already.
Once we have a steady month on san diego BAH, I get there and find a new job (which I'm already looking) we'll be completely fine. Its this unexpected, in-between period that killed us.
