My sr would like to get a good wrist watch before he leaves next week for boot camp. Are there any requirements?

If the recruit needs a watch, then the recruit has to buy it if he does not have one, but most recruits do not need a watch.
Your future Sailor MAY be able to keep a wrist watch if it falls within Navy regulations, but many send them home. If you choose to get a watch, get a cheap all black one because it may come back in "the box" and also there is theft at the RTC even though we want to be believe that all of the recruits will follow the Navy Creed and be honorable. Some recruits need a watch at the RTC to help them with their duties if they are chosen for one of the recruit petty officer positions where they need to be very aware of the time and they will buy one at the NEX, but most recruits will not need a watch.
I gave my husband a G-Shock military grade watch as a wedding present and he was able to keep it at boot camp. It had military time on it and he was able to go in the water with it and everything. If your sailor does take a watch I would advise him not to take it off if possible that way someone doesn't take it or it doesn't get lost. A watch isn't a necessity but my husband said it helped him stay on top of the time constantly.
G-Shock watches are very popular after BC.
