I'm doing ok.  It is in one way easier not hearing his struggle through calls and texts.  Again that struggle was just the evening before and day he left but still was so hard because I couldn't fix it you know.  Eager to get his form letter this week so can start writing.  How are you doing?  How did your son do with it?

I'm doing ok too. We just have to believe that we raised them well and they will be fine. I think the hardest part for my son is the structure. He is used to sleeping late and staying up late, which we know they aren't doing in bootcamp! Now I await the box and the letter. Let's stay in touch.

Me too...watching the mail every day, think looking at time line that may have gone out yesterday!  My son was doign same thing late nights and sleeping late too! Reality check huh!    For sure let's stay in touch, we might be going to graduation same time!

I missed the box delivery today! FedEx left the note on my door so they will try again tomorrow.

That stinks; I am in the office today so not at home; hope I didn't miss. When did your son arrive in Great Lakes?  Did you get his form letter yet with address and graduation date?

He arrived in Great Lakes 3/12. I did not get the letter yet but they say that comes after the box.

The box came today, so I am hoping the letter will arrive soon.  I was told to e-mail his recruiter to get his address, which is what I did.  Maybe I will get it sooner that way.  We're in this together and maybe our sons may know each other already.

Even if you get the address from the recruiter, wait on The Form Letter before sending letters.

Reasons to wait on The Form Letter:

1. The PAO at the RTC asks that loved ones wait on the form letter before mailing letters. See http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/fam_guide.asp.

2. The recruiter does not always give the right address and letters that do not have the correct address may be returned or may be delayed several weeks in getting to your recruit since it will not be a high priority for those in the mail room to look up the correct information.

3. Even if you do have the correct information, your recruit will not receive letters that are mailed before receiving the form letter much quicker, if at all, than letters mailed after receiving the form letter because recruits do not receive mail until they are in their permanent ship and a Recruit Mail Petty Officer is trained. The first Mail Call is on day 1-3 or 1-4 DOT.

***

Note: If it has been at least 2 calendar weeks since your recruit arrived at the RTC and you do not have a form letter, then you can call the recruiter and get the address and mail letters to your recruit, but be sure to double-check the address against those at http://bootcamp.navy.mil/contact_recruit.asp or Ship/Division--How it Works.

Ok my son arrived March 11; so I should get box soon.  Maybe tomorrow when I am working from home!  Hoping you don't miss FedX guy tomorrow!

We'll compare notes tomorrow!

My Fed Ex guy left a note that he would return another time. I missed him by 10 minutes!! Arrived today. Tears were rolling again.

I feel your pain but so glad you got it today. I missed the box by 20 minutes. I will not leave my house tomorrow until that box is in my hands!
