My son left to boot camp yesterday... It was the saddest day of my life so far. I literally felt my heart ache when he got on the bus to leave to the airport. I received his “I’m here” call at 1:50 am. I heard his voice quiver as he read the scripted call, but I knew that he was okay. I want to share with all of you that my son is a very special person. My son has always been smart, responsible, loyal, dependable, sensible, conscientious and mature. However, never in a million years thought he wanted a military way of life. He made the decision all on his own. He wants to serve our country. He felt a duty. And for that reason and many more I could not be prouder. He really is the best son a mother or any parent could ask for. I am honored to be his mother.

I wanted to thank all of you who have expressed to me a word of kindness, encouragement and also comfort. It is very much appreciated and it really means a lot.

I dedicated the following verse to my son and all the other SRs..

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9

My son also left yesterday.  Tuesday night they had the recruits stay at a hotel and we were allowed to take him out to dinner.  Wednesday morning he was sworn in and we spent an hour together before he left.  The scripted call was received around 9:30 and I heard the voice of the little boy I raised.  It is scary knowing we cannot contact them.  I feel it is what my son may need and the support of this group and family will help me get through the bootcamp time.

We were able to do the same thing. Have dinner with my son. It's a lot harder than I thought it would be. I can't even go into his room. Makes me so sad. But I sm proud of him. I'm glad to be able to communicate with other people in my position. Most of my friends don't understand. Our boys should be together in this journey and I wish them both the best! We will be there for each other.

Judith, The scripture is the perfect one for us to keep close to heart.  I reminded my son that he is never alone, and that Jesus is right there holding his hand.  We have to remember that when we are feeling scared and alone.  God, blessed you with a wonderful son, but I also think he blessed your son with the perfect mom.

Our future with our children seems long, but we can do this!

God bless you Amy and thank you for your kind words. It is so much harder than I tho it would be.. I find myself thinking of him all the time. Wondering what he is doing. But I do know that God is looking after our children and it gives me comfort.

I do the same thing.  We are moms.  I guess that is what moms do!  My son left March the 8th.  I really hope he can call this Sunday as it is Easter Sunday and I would love to hear his voice. But, if not, I will just keep writing him.
