While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Hi Tiffany! My son spent 2 years at 29 Palms. He worked in the hospital the first year and then in a clinic. He lived off base his second year and worked out at CrossFit Yucca Valley. He met some of the most wonderful people there who have become like family.I went to visit him and we did a lot in the 4 days I was there. Why does the location scare you? It is about 45 minutes from Palm Springs. There is a great tramway to go up to the top of Mt. San Jacinto. It is at an altitude of about 3400 feet. Joshua Tree National Park is close by. It is in the middle of nowhere but the desert has it's own beauty. My son learned a lot while he was there, including rock climbing! He went to San Diego sometimes, concerts in various venues. You need a car because nothing is really close by. He was often the Corpsman on Call with the Marine Martial Arts training. He earned certification in Neonatal, Pediatric, Obstetric and Advanced Cardiac Life Support. (He even became an ACLS instructor.) It is HOT in the Summer and cools off in the Winter. Hope this helps! Dear dramasoul, I am terrified of going to the desert mainly because I am from miami and I spoiled with having the convinience of everything around me. So when I hear people telling me that Palm springs is about an hour drive and target is too it kinda frightens me because I am so use to everything being a 10-20min drive. I am also scared that I will be bored and have nothing to do :/ my husband keeps telling me that I'll enjoy the fitness 29palms has to offer. I currently workout almost everyday and I love to do races and half marathons and he keeps telling me that I will be more than entertained working out lol but I'm scared of small towns and not fitting in since I am a city slicker :/ but your son earned a lot of certifications which is wonderful! I only hoe my husband can accomplish the same. Any other tips? Thank you :)

I grew up in Los Angeles and now live in Portland, OR. I, too, am a city slicker but having grown up in LA, I got used to driving EVERYWHERE! I moved from LA to Southern Oregon before moving to Portland. I was in a small town and I ended up finding a community theater group with which to involve myself. I know it's a long way from "home" but think of it as a new adventure. I highly recommend CrossFit Yucca Valley. Gina and Rick (the owners) took great care of my son and his buddies. I met them when I went to visit. Awesome people! They really are family! It's true that things are spread out but there is a commumity college I think in Yucca. Joshua Tree National Park is really worth seeing and there is lots of hiking in that area. Also...check out the dates in Indio! They make date everything. Palm Springs has much to do. There is an art museum there that really surprised me. The collection is quite good, if small. (I love museums!). There is a film festival in Palm Springs in January. It is very well respected. The biggest change for you will be the altitude and lack of humidity. If you are used to Miami, you will be parched! Just keep hydrated. My son earned the respect of his Marines because he could keep up with them and that's a big deal. You will find your footing! I am sure there are Navy spouse groups althugh my son is single so that wasn't something he knew about! ;) Keep me posted and let me know how you are doing!

I wont lie the fact that you told me there is a crossfit there excites me because i did not think that they would have anything like that over there lol How is the view in Yucca at night? is it filled with stars like in the pictures from Joshua Tree at night? And wow so palm springs has civilization? Im sorry if i sound ignorant but when i picture 29 palms i am literally picturing NOTHING! lol like i picture weird scary people with old homes and thats it. I dont see it being a town with a mall and restaraunts etc. So i apologize if i sound ignorant, And there is no humidity??? Oh boy i see me chugging more than my gallon of water daily haha
