Welcome to the Division Discussion for Divisions 181 and 182

These two divisions are brother divisions and will be training together from the beginning through BS21 their final test. Your SRs, soon to be SAILORS, are becoming friends, and some of them may be heading to A School together.

Get to know each other, your SRs are!

Please still use the Main Wall of the PIR Group to post questions, and concerns, we “veteran” moms don’t always get to into the discussion area as often as we would like.

Every single question that is asked is important

Every single concern is genuine

Every single member is important to us

We don't want to accidentally overlook any of them or you.

Hang in there!!!

Hi all.....I am new to this.  My recruit is Ship 4 Div 181.  We finally received our form letter this past Monday and have an address to send all of our letters.  Also, have the PIR date of May 15.  Looks like we are "all in the same boat".  No pun intended.  We were blessed on Saturday morning to receive a 10 minute phone call.  IT WAS SO WONDERFUL TO HEAR OUR SON'S VOICE.  Hoping you all get that phone call soon.

When did your SR go to Great Lakes?  That seems like such a long wait for your letter.  Glad it came though finally. :-)

He left March 19th.  He did tell us that he was processing for a long time waiting for other recruits.   We have no idea why it took so long to get the "form letter".....that is why I was worrying so much!  As soon as we got the form letter on Monday, I dashed to the post office with the letters we have for him.  Hope he wasn't to "down" at Mail Call.   So relieved and happy to actually hear his voice on Saturday morning and to talk for 10 minutes!!  Cannot wait for the next call, as we all await.

I can only imagine how excited he'll be when he gets all of those letters at once.

I'm having a hard time seeing who is repyling to what on these forums, so I apologize if I respond out of turn.

My husband is also in 181. He got there the evening of 3/24 and yes, I believe 181 is a push division. We had guess that his grad would be 5/22, but when it turned out to be 5/15, we had to adjust a few plans. No big deal and I'll get to see him a week sooner!!

I see some chit chat about PUSH divisions. A PUSH division happens when divisions are put on p hold after processing because the division isn't full, and they must wait for other to arrive. If one division is PUSH it's brother division will be PUSH. Training is all the same although things might not happen on the right day or possibly week (although it is the same order as the rest). Confused you yet? :)

If you follow the "day by day" schedule for BC it will have you wondering what is going on because your SR just said in his/her last letter they did that too, but you know they are on a different day or week. Week one will always be processing days for every SR entering RTC, but if p hold days happen and those days in hold are longer than normal PUSH happens.

This is just a general EXAMPLE for a PUSH!

Arrival at RTC the recruits have processing just like the rest, their division is not full so they go to p hold (any division can have some amount of p hold, but how long they are in hold is why PUSH happens).  The division/divisions that aren't full have seven days in p hold while waiting to fill, so they have now "missed" a week of training. Those "late" recruits arrive are processed put in the divisions on p hold and off to training they all go, but now somewhere they need to make up the fact they have less time for training, but they can't skip something. Week one is done for all of those recruits, but for some week one was two weeks. They do spend time reading their training manual etc, and are not just sitting there per se.

In this example the weeks used are what should be considered their training week. So when week two is used in this example it is actually a push divisions third week at RTC.

"Week 2" begins...Physical and confidence training begins, but they are "behind" in training for PIR so towards the end of week one they also begin first aid and flag signaling, which should start in week two.

"Week 3" begins...Training in first aid and flag signaling has already begun, but the recruits sill have to learn to get on and off a ship, they have their first physical training test etc., but they are still behind, still not enough weeks left, so into the mix is added weapons training (week 4).

"Week 4"... Hell week aaaaaggggghhhhh! Week four is still week four, but they might begin firefighting towards the end of the week too, and that shouldn't start until week 5.

"Week 5"...Firefighting and more firefighting, Gas Chamber, but wait this should happen week six! Wait this is week six PIR is Friday, what happened to week 5? Well... all of the stuff that should have happened this week (5), classes training, physical training, team bonding stuff etc. has been happening and added since week one. Ta Da! Now caught up to training week 6.

Now it is BS and PIR!

My son was in a PUSH three years ago. When he arrived he had an expected PIR date of the 27th. His box arrived in two weeks, but the form letter took a little over three weeks, and much to my surprise his PIR ended up being the 20th. This happens often and is why we say don't make arrangements for PIR until the date is confirmed with the form letter.

His division and brother division were in phold for 16 calender days while waiting for 60 females to arrive (yes 60). What he was telling me in his letter about what they were doing was so off the norm of the "schedule" of day by day at boot camp that I was trying to follow, I was soooo confused. LOL It wasn't until all of us waiting here learned they were in phold for so long, and in a push division that it made sense (although we could never figure out where they were in training).

Count the days, but don't expect things to be as they should appear to be and you will be fine.

Thank you sooooo much for the explanation!  My son is in the 181 push group and I just couldn't figure it out!  Your example was great!  It's good to hear that other Moms were wondering too.  This group is a lifesaver for me.  THANK YOU all for sharing your stories!  I feel like I know you!  :)   We got a letter from our SR today!

We are all "in the same boat"......Lol

Thank you for your wisdom.   It helps so much!

No:( I'm still waiting for it

Noticed our ship has the most activity in these threads.  So how many of us chatty folks will be at the meet and great? :)

My husband and I hope to be there.  It depends on travel time for us as we are driving an eight hour trip.  My mother- in- law, God bless her, really wants to come too.  She just turned 80 this week and has slowed down very much.  She and our son are VERY close.  Just do not know how well she will travel and "get around".  We need to give this some very serious thought.  Hopefully we will be at the meet and great.  We booked our hotel last evening.
