Hello everyone!
My future nuke sailor swears in at MEPS tomorrow. Looking to touch base with any other future nuke sailor moms out there. From talking to the guys in the recruiters office this morning it sounded like there might be a big group of nukes swearing in tomorrow.
Hope everyone is having a great day!

Welcome Nuke wife/nuke mom! You've definitely come to the right place ;-) Once your SR gets to BC and you find out what Ship/Division he is in you will want to join that group too. There you will get lots of support over the next 8 weeks (along with the BC group which I see you have already joined). In the meantime look at the main nuke mom's page - to the right under the member profiles you will see 9 pages of info. Read up on that! Also go through the "Discussion Forum" and take a look at some of the topics there. And then if you still have questions, feel free to ask away! We have many mom's (& some dad's too) that are in various places in the nuke pipeline and can help you through. Be prepared as it's a wild & crazy ride!
Thanks B'sNukeMom! My hubby was a nuke back in the 80's but he was out of the Navy by the time I met him; so, he has a really good understanding of what the kid will be going through. Me on the other hand, not so much. Unfortunately, neither the kid nor the hubby feel the need to share info with me (at least not as much info as what I would like) so here I am!
Hi, My SR will graduate boot camp next Friday and will be headed to Nuke school here in SC. There are about 10 or so in his division. When they arrive they have at least a week on indoc and then will start when their "rate" class is full...however long that takes. So, he will not begin his A school until there is a full class. The he will have either 3 months or 6 months of seat time for the instruction again depending upon his "rate" ET, EM, or the 3 month MM. Power school follows that for 6 months. The pipeline is a long one. We are very excited to have him finishing boot camp next week. WE will fly up to see the graduation. Hope your guy is ready to play the "head" games at boot camp. He will do fine by listening and following exact orders and instructions. Best to you all.
Hi KAM Mom! Congratulations on you SR's graduation! Do you know what rate your SR is?Mine is hoping for ET and his second preference is EM. We are definitely planning on flying up for BC graduation too. My hubby was a nuke back in the 80's so he has tried to prepare the kid for what is about to happen.
Our SR has listed ET first and EM second. Because he did really well on the ASVAB, I hope he gets his first choice. But, I told him that though the Navy thinks they direct his path, really it is the LORD Jesus and so we know that where he ends up is the perfect place for him in the LORD's great plan. I also hope he is thinking of marriage after A school....that is my plan....but I will defer to the LORD as He leads our SR and the special someone. WE are very excited, and a little anxious as, I know how very difficult the Nuke pipeline is. Hope to meet you some time.
Mine did really well on the ASVAB also (perfect score) so hopefully that will help him also. I agree, God has a greater plan for us all & everything will work out in the end. So, you are dealing with the possible marriage also. Mine has been in a long distance relationship with his girlfriend for over a year and a half. I will not be surprised if they get engaged for Christmas. I know that he wants her to finish college & for him to get through nuke school before actually getting married though.
Rosemom, The ASVAB is taken prior to enlisting. Instead of the ASVAB, prospective officers take the OAR (Officer Aptitude Rating exam) prior to being accepted to the program they are seeking.
Our SR will be doing ET!!!! So glad he/she was ab;e to get the first choice. The move to A school will be much more academic, but still with a great deal of stress. They must learn to focus and think clearly in stressful situations so they can do that on the ship. This pipeline is a long one. They really must take it one day at a time and focus to do all they can. In Boot Camp they are just beginning to understand what their "best" really is. Good luck to your. We leave in a few days for PIR. Are we excited yet?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Congrats on the ET rating!!! I found my SR in one of the Mother's Day pics from the Recruit Training Command facebook page. It surprised me how excited I got seeing it. Have a safe trip to PIR & enjoy the day!
Hello :-) My daughter swore in for Nuke 4/29/15 here in Jacksonville. She leaves for RTC in January. I am happy to see another new mom here :-)
my son graduates RTC next Friday, also--5/15/15...he wanted ET OR EM,too, but got MM. think he was disappointed, but then found out he will be primary firefighter as MM, and is now ok. I was told by recruiter Nuke school is 2 years, it still is as MM, right?
