Hello everyone!

My future nuke sailor swears in at MEPS tomorrow. Looking to touch base with any other future nuke sailor moms out there.  From talking to the guys in the recruiters office this morning it sounded like there might be a  big group of nukes swearing in tomorrow.

Hope everyone is having a great day!

As far as I understand, once they get through A school, the rest of nuke school is the same for all of the ratings.

I think the seat time is actually 3 sets of 6 month, 1 for A school, 1 for Power school, and another for prototype (reactor training).  But, it could take longer depending upon if they have to wait for classes to fill.  When did your SR find out about the MM placement?  Ours has not received that info yet as far as we know.

Happy Mother's Day.....we can celebrate with them next week also!!

A school for MM's is actually 3 months, ET's & EM's are 6 months.  Take a look on the front page - to the right under member profiles - "Your Sailor's Schedule Upon Arrival to GC".  This explains the length of each school, phase up time, etc.

Well, he's sworn in & headed to the airport.  Let the games begin!

Make sure you keep your phone on you at all times!  You should get the "I'm here" call later tonight - it will be short & sweet.  Start writing your letters now, # them so when you get his address you can mail them all out.  Count Fridays rather than individual days - it will help to make the time go by quicker.  Best of luck to him and you!

Oh believe me, my cell phone will not leave my side!  Only thing is, he might actually call his girlfriend instead of me. Thankfully though I know that if he does call her, she will call me afterwards.  I went to the store yesterday & got paper & envelopes so that I would be prepared.  Silly question, is BC 8 weeks?  Just trying to get a feel for when PIR might be.

Glad to hear that his GF will let you know if she gets the call!

They say you can count anywhere from 7-9 Fridays.  Sometimes they get there & have to wait for a division to fill up & sometimes they are put in a "push" division and it is a little shorter.  My son was actually there 9 Friday's.  Don't make any firm plans until you get the letter with his PIR date 'cuz you just never know!

So, would I count tomorrow or start with next Friday?

I would count tomorrow as the first Friday - that's what I did when I counted the 9 Friday's that my son was there. (and the 9th Friday was his actual PIR.)

My son actually flew from Great Lakes to South Carolina today.  Do you know when he will be able to make his first call?  We are going to send him a cell once we have exact address.

He should be able to make a call right away.  Probably a matter of finding a payphone (do they even have them on base? I don't know!) or borrowing a phone from someone.  Maybe he can borrow his roommates.

Make sure you read on the front page "Your Sailor's Schedule Upon Arrival to GC" - it's on the right under the member profiles.  It gives the address for when they first arrive.  If he's an MM I think if I remember correctly it's:

FN Last Name, First Name

then the address that's listed on that page (indoc).

Hopefully you'll hear from him soon!

Welcome Angel - Make sure you read the info on the main nuke page - to the right under the member profiles - 9 pages of info.  This will give you some insight on what to expect.  Also take some time to go through the discussion forum and you will find interesting topics there too!  We won't let you get lost ;-)
