My SR's PIR date is July 2, 2015. He will be going to Goose Creek for A school. I know a while ago there was much discussion about there being one hotel in GL that the new sailors were not able to get chits to after graduation. I can't remember if it was only an issue for those staying in GL or if it was for those flying out? Also can't remember which hotel it was. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Also, since PIR is on Thursday and it's a holiday weekend, can we still expect him to fly out for Goose Creek on Friday or is there any chance that it will be later?

My son is also going to Goose Creek, I was wondering the same thing about flying out on Friday or Saturday.
Hi Kandie88! is yours a nuke?
Yes my son is Nuke. Yay, I have someone that I can go through this with.
Tell me about it! My hubby was a nuke back in the 80's so he knows all about it. He was already out of the Navy before we met so I have no personal experience myself.
Gateway can be problematic. The Lodge needs a chit from some of them, but is otherwise okay. Yours is not attaching to TSC, so no problem.
He could fly out any day that weekend. Just depends on what flights the Navy has available.
so since they are flying out, they should be able to get a chit for any of the places? As far as flying out, i guess he probably wont know until just about PIR day?
He may know a little beforehand, in time to send it in a letter or let you know during I'm a sailor call. But it really can be random.
He shouldn't need a chit for the Lodge. Navy Lodge is terrific, with kitchenettes and a more family a more family atmosphere.

I'd just avoid the Gateway on base. It may be cheaper, but as a new sailor, I'd find relaxing in a building full of senior personnel impossible. Gateway is used to house those on TDY orders, while "leisure" stays are on space available basis.
