My son will be leaving for BC on June 3, 2015. Anyone else?

Yes! My son is leaving on this date also, where are you? We are in Mission Viejo California!

We are in central New York. Are you ready for the big day?

No!  Lol....I have wanted this for him since he signed the papers for DEP back in January, actually even before that, when we had started talking about the Military in general!  and now that it is just around the corner, and time is now flying by at light speed, it's getting scary!  How about you?

As of now I think I'm ready, but we have a lot of distractions between now and then - family day trips, getting together with family and friends, and of course I have to somehow put together his going away party for next weekend! These thoughts occurred to me today: What's it going to be like, starting the day as a family of four at home, and ending the day with only three of us? What will I do when one of us has to drive his car home from the station that day, knowing it will be a LONG time before he'll be in it again? I have no clue... but I did get an image of me crying in a parking lot somewhere, both proud and sad that he's gone. So for now I'm enjoying the excitement of things to come - he is ready to go, and I want to see this happen for him.

My son flies out on June 2nd. from San Antonio TX.

My husband flies out 6/3.
Yes my son leaves also I'm so proud and scared too.when I see him leave on that plane I'm going to loose it. He is my baby and is so excited to start his life as a adult I'm so proud

We just dropped our son off at his hotel after an evening of family time and one last home-cooked dinner. Tomorrow's the big day! I'm holding up well so far, but his 13-year-old sister is going to miss him terribly. We let her stay home from school today and the two spent the day together while my husband and I worked. They both said it was the best day ever. We are all so very proud of him for choosing this path, and while we'll be sad to see him go, we are happy for him to be doing something he really wants to do.

We are in augusta ga my son leaves out if Columbia sc tommrow we are going to meet him see him swear in again and stay at airport with him so I guess late tomorrow he will be in Great Lakes.
I dropped my husband off at the hotel today, too. We spent all afternoon together and said our heartfelt goodbyes so I'm not as much of an absolute mess tomorrow. I can't wait to see him again tomorrow when he swears in for the final time. I'm going to miss him terribly, but I am so proud of him.

Well, it's done. My son has made his way to BC. Just got "the call" and am thrilled that not only was I able to squeeze an "I love you" in, but he gave me an "I love you, too" back before he hung up. He left at 2PM our time and called at 9PM our time, which was great - from some of the comments I was half expecting to get it sometime during the night!

I was able to hold back the tears until he disappeared down the ramp to the plane... but I am pleasantly surprised today to find myself more proud and excited than sad. He really wanted to do this, and has been waiting patiently (and sometimes impatiently!) for over three months to get to this point. Yes, we will all miss him terribly, and I'm sure I will be caught unawares and find myself in tears over some things in the coming weeks (I'm guessing laundry day, doing that last load of his clothes and putting the stuff away one last time), but I will embrace those moments when they come, experience them however they happen, and then keep moving forward.

Lately his "favorite" phrase to me has been, "Mom, don't worry about it." Maybe it's finally sinking in. He is there, he is safe, and he is beginning HIS adventure of a lifetime, his journey to becoming the man he wants to be.

And three weeks until he can call again won't be that long, after all.

My son just made it to Chicago he got a voucher to eat and now I'm just waiting for the call. I'm so proud he has been waiting for 8 months so tonight his journey begins. I'm praying for all the recruits beginning this journey.
