While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

I have heard both ways. I read they get one night with us, but then my son's recruiter said sometimes they could get up to a week. It just all depends. No way of.knowing unfortunately.

jaysmom1995, I hate to tell you, but the recruiter is WRONG. The RTC changed to Friday and Saturday departures in the spring of 2011 and even though it is no longer called that, that is still the practice. See http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/pdfs/FamilyGuide_v18Jun2013.pdf. It would be great if recruiters would become familiar with that and the RTC's fB page at https://www.facebook.com/NavyRecruitTrainingCommand and then perhaps they would not give out such VERY outdated info as your recruit's recruiter did. The only way a Sailor who has "A" School away from GL would be kept in GL longer than the weekend would be if there were a problem of some sort, which would cause the Sailor to be housed in the THU.

Shubbie, Your Sailor will most likely fly out the next day. It is rare that those flying to CT don't fly out the next day.

So I know I'm having a bad day and I'm crabby and emotional but I can't take one more person "explaining" to me how this is such a good thing for him. I know that. I could not be more proud or happy for him. He left here excited for the whole experience and if I could wish him back home I wouldn't because this is what he wants and he will be a better man for having done it. I'm still sad and I miss him terribly. I can feel both things. It's like the definition of happy-sad. My heartache doesn't mean I wish he hadn't chosen this. I'm hoping I'm not alone.

You're not alone! I know we are proud of them, but doesn't help that it feels like I want to stay in bed and cry all day. Everything I see of his at home hurts my heart. I'm hoping it will get better for us...I'm just concentrating on getting through these 8 weeks and it might get a little easier when we are able to talk to them and Skype with them more often. Hugs to you!

Thank you! The time is one thing. He spent most of a summer in Germany so he has been gone before. I think it is more the fact that things won't ever be like they were. He'll always just be visiting now. I need to wash his sheets and I just can't bring myself to do it.
