Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

another newbie :)
Hi everyone!
So far I've found this site to be super helpful! It's answered many of the questions I didn't know I had. There are still some things I'm not sure about though, and any input is appreciated :)
1. My husband leaves for boot camp October 8th; at what point do you learn the PIR/graduation date?
2. When we got married, I kept my maiden name. Will I have to change my last name to his for DEERS or BAH?
3. We have two sons, a two year old and a five month old. Are we able to use the Child Development Center while he's in bootcamp? Or only after graduation? Is it ok that we live off-base?
4. I've read briefly that some wives move to be with their husbands while others stay at their original home. I'll be staying with the boys in Hawai'i (our home) while my husband is at bootcamp and afterward. He said we can re-evaluate what we want to do once he finds out where he is going to be stationed. Honestly, one of my major concerns is money, and is one way smarter than another for saving money? i.e. living on base vs. staying in Hawai'i or off-base elsewhere?

So regarding your questions
1.You should find out his PIR date in his first few letters or phone call he will let you know, but a rough estimate should be the 18th of December. Its always a Friday and that's the Friday 8 weeks after he gets there :)
2. No you don't have to change your name, they prefer it but it dosent make a difference, and if you change it later that's fine too.
3. I don't know about the CDC, but I know you can use it even if you live off base, I'm just not sure if you have to wait til graduation.
4. I think whatever works best for you guys is what's important. I was raised in Hawai'i so I totally understand the cost of living thing there, so it could be cheaper for you guys to move but that's honestly just a decision between you and your husband :)
