Hi all, my son left today for boot camp. Although I've tried relentlessly to have him mail his box to me he's mailing home to his Dad. This presents a huge problem as we are divorced living in different states. Dad is not attending PIR & I am. I'm freaking out at the very thought that this information won't get to me. I want to be able to write & receive letters. Is there a way to obtain the info I need in order to not only attend PIR but also send letters? I'm not looking to track down the ex husband for this information. I can't be the first person who has encountered this. What can I do? Thanks for any advice anyone can give.

The box won't have any information in it at all. There's a form letter that arrives a few days - few weeks later with address etc...Up to your SR who he sends that to - you, dad, a GF...

Your SR will be able to write letters to you as well - so even if you don't get the form letter, you'll be able to get the address from his letters once they start arriving. He's also the person who determines which 4 guests are invited to PIR and he should let you know who is on the list as PIR gets closer.

((((Hugs)))) Mum - it's hard to let go and let them grow up. Trust that your son will get you the information you need - it might take longer than you want it to but that's how it goes when they become adults

Thanks so much. So basically as long as I'm on this list I don't need anything other than an ID? I don't need an official document or code in order to attend this? It's exciting, overwhelming & confusing all at once. He's already landed and got the call that he's ok. That makes me feel better. Just want to be able to write & am looking to adopt a soldier that weekend or day also.

I think there's a passcode you'll need to print a gate pass. My son hasn't even left for boot camp yet - he leaves in mid-Nov - so hopefully someone with some actual information will come along and post soon.

I do know that if you're NOT on the list, you can't attend PIR - although you can still meet up with your Sailor after PIR before he leaves for A school

Your form letter will have his mailing address as well as a code to print a gate pass. You will have to have the gate pass to gain access to attend PIR. Should he send his form letter to someone else he will just need to send you the gate pass info in a letter. Be patient, the form letter came a good week after we received the box which took about 4 days itself. The form letter will also have a list of 3 to 4 people of your recruits choosing that will be able to attend. Good luck to you and your recruit! I'm at the tale end of my recruits time at boot camp, just two more weeks, so hang in there. He'll be able to write to you of any recruits he may know that will not have family/friends able to attend PIR. Do you know what rating he is doing?

Looks like I will be getting the info second hand from him then in order to print a gate pass. I know for sure I'm on his list to attend PIR. I'm not sure of the rating but I do know that he will be staying at GL for another 5 weeks after PIR.
There is no info in the box. The info is all in the form letter.
Your SR should send that to you. Do you know what his plan is for that?

Maybe your ex could forward it to you if it comes to him.
I was hoping there was a way to separate the 2. He was going to ask about that. But if I'm understanding you correctly then he should mail box with personal items home & form letter to me. I truly hope that's what he does. Only time will tell. When I do hear from him again I will be sure to ask. It more than likely will be after things have been mailed out. I know he's happy tired & super excited so I'm not as worried. He's in good hands. Thanks everyone for all the info. Let the countdown to PIR begin!
