Hello My Son is on the USS GW and wanted to reach out to others who may have family aboard as well

Hi - I am new to this group! My son is coming aboard the Washington very soon, coming to join the sailors on the carrier from a carrier in VA. I'm looking to connect with some others. Thx, Tracy
Thanks so much for replying to me!! My son Peter's ship is actually the GH Bush Carrier, which is in drydock for a year in VA! He volunteered to be deployed for 4-5 months on the GW. He will fly and meet the ship. Where are you and your son from? My name is Tracy
Hi Carol! Sorry for the delay, I'm not on Navy Moms regularly. My son has been in the Navy about a year and a half now, stationed on the Bush Carrier. So right out of boot camp he flew out to meet the Bush on deployment. He was only out about 2-3 months, but did say he liked at sea better than the shipyard (which is where the carrier is now). He volunteered to go meet the GW, basically for himself to get his qualifications and certifications. Also an opportunity to travel. Has your son been stationed in Japan? and for how long? I was wondering if you could tell me if and what kind of phone service your son has? My son has an Iphone with Verizon, and wants me to add the Internation Plan, ($40/mo.), which I don't know much about. And does this make things easier for communication with him? He leaves from VA to CA, and take a military plane late August to meet up with the GW, somewhere? Is the carrier still in Japan? Sorry for all the quesitons.
My Son and I are from Bay Shore NY(Long Island) ! he has been with the GW wince 4/14. and this is his 2nd deployment. We are sooo looking forward to him being in Va so much closer to home! I too am Tracey!
Hi Tracey! Has your son been stationed in Japan? We are from the East Coast (Boston), as well, just knowing they are that close is comforting. Does your son like Japan? Have you had any experience with a phone service with your son, as he has been on deployment?Any advice you may have would be great. Thanks, Tracy
My Son was in Japan almost 18 months, he will be staying with the GW and will be heading to Norfolk! Welcome Peter's Mom.. My name is also Tracey
Thank you Tracey! You must be excited to know he's coming back home to the States!
You have no clue!! We count down the days together!
Peter's Mom - I sent you a friend request. You need an update on the GW! I'll give you the scoop on a private message as I don't want to share too much on here due to OPSEC
