Hard to believe it is the final weekend before our kids leave, if only this weekend could last forever. My son is super excited and for that I am happy. He is doing exactly what he wants to do at this point of his life. I know that I am going to miss him terribly but I am so proud of him. He is spending these last few days visiting with all of his friends and saying goodbye. We will be spending all day Monday with him and as long as we are able to on Tuesday. I am trying to get myself prepared because I really want to be there when he swears in but I'm worried I will have a hard time controlling the tears. I am thankful that I found this page and know that having the support here will be so helpful.

I feel the same way I'm hoping I can hold it together. Saturday, Sunday and Monday that's all we have. I'm freaking out to say the least. He shaved his head Wednesday night which really hit home hard. We are vacationing together but the closer it gets the more I cry.
Please help me be strong!
I am really having a hard time. My daughter leaves 8/11 too. Today is the last full day she will be home. I keep reminding myself that this is her journey and she'll be fine. So hard to let go...
I know I just woke up and thought wow this is it tonight is his last night at home in his bed. It's so weird to me that we raise them and then wow they're gone. He did say yesterday he was a little stressed that's the first time he's admitted anything like that. Big hugs to us both!
Hugs! What mixed feelings.
Well, she's at the hotel. I'll go to MEPS in the morning to see her get sworn in and then she's off. Such mixed feelings tonight. I can't believe she is on her way and out of the house. Miss her already.
Just left my son at his hotel. We had a lovely dinner at the Cheesecake Factory with our family. I'm now heading home to try and sleep then back down in the morning for his swearing in. I can't believe the day has arrived. Good luck to our new sailors!

Yes, good luck to your soon-to-be new Recruits--not Sailors yet. You won't have Sailors until your Recruits pass Battle Stations-21 (BST) in the last week before PIR.

Thanks lemonelephant for that reminder!

You are very welcome.

We made the almost 2 hour drive to the hotel tonight. Funny story on the way my son realized the folder containing paperwork he needed for MEPS was at home. I had to call my parents after dropping my son at the hotel and have them met us halfway with the paperwork. The one and only thing he really needs to bring and he forgets it.

We are also staying overnight so we can go to MEPS in the morning. At this point I am not even sure of the exact time we need to be at MEPS, my son nor his recruiter knew the time. We did get to take him to dinner and so far I feel like I am doing better than I expected.

I love this story! Priceless
