Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

SR having a hard time
So guys I need some guidance, got my son's first letter and he is not doing well. He said he hates it and can't do it anymore and wants to come home. Is this normal , he said that he has tried to talk to the RTC and the Chaplin . I am just heartbroken for him. I can't make it better. Does he have any options to come home. I really want him to hang in there and stick it out, I know it is just such a hard change for them. Thanks for the advice

Masterchefsmom my SR sent his first letter home exactly 1 week ago and it sounded exactly like what your SR is saying. I was devastated because I also could not make it better. This last Sunday we had our 1st call with our SR and he was 100 times better when I spoke to him. I just received a letter today and he has made so many friends and he is finally getting the hang of working out all the time. Much more positive now in his letter. Give it 2 weeks I promise it will get better. My SR arrived to BC on 7/21/15 and his PIR is 9/18/2015. Div 310!

Thank you so much, Mine left for bc on 7/28 and is set to graduate on 9/18 as well. DIV 315. I am just scared for him. I don't want him to be so unhappy he makes a harsh decision that could impact the rest of his life. I Dont even know if they have options to get out. I want him to stick with it. Only 35 more days. He can do this. Thanks for replying. Makes me feel better.

You are definitely not alone in worrying! It certainly is normal for them to feel this way. Not sure what the date on your SR's letter was - but I have heard so many stories about how after about 3 weeks in they do 180 degree turn and it's noticed in the coming calls and letters. Just keep writing and encouraging your SR to hang tough and remind him that he wont' have that feeling forever- he may, however, have regrets the rest of his life if he gives up now so soon. Hard to tell sometimes if it's tougher on them or on us moms!

My daughters first letter and second letter were much different. The first was written when she first got there and the second about a week later. With her last phone call she said that she disliked boot camp. I told her that I'm not sure she was suppose to like boot camp:-) Kinda the purpose behind boot camp is to break them down and bulid them back up as a Sailor. I worry constantly about my daughter but I know she's in good hands. You son is in good hands as well. Prayers to you and your son!

We do have an update. We actually got a call on Saturday. So good to hear his voice. He is just really home sick and wants to be with us. He had tears but for the most part doing well. He was upset that he had missed a chance to call earlier in the week due to having is wisdom teeth pulled. He did say that he failed swim test and PFA but I think they were both done shortly after they pulled his teeth. Hope to get a another letter soon. Overall he is doing good. Thank you for checking on him.

Yay, that is Good news! He sounds better, and I'm sure is getting better and better each day. I guess the "no news is good news" rings true, although it stinks. I want my phone to ring so bad, but at the same time, I'm afraid it will. Does that make sense? I keep writing and encouraging him. He didn't sound bad in his last letter to me, but divulged a bit more in his letter to his girlfriend that he was VERY homesick. I don't think he is telling me the full truth, doesn't want me to worry. So now, of course I'm worried! LOL!
Hopefully we'll get letters today/tomorrow! Don't worry about the swim and PFA, there's plenty time to pass it! What DIV is your SR in?

Masterchefsmom: I'm glad that you were able to talk to your son. I agree with kory&joshuasmom, don't worry so much about the test, there's still time for them to pass it. Keep sending him letters of encouragement and we're here to try to assist each other's concerns. I have told my kids this all the time "I am your mother, now and for always, it doesn't matter how old you are, good or bad, I will always love and support you with all my heart." We can only guide them and love them unconditionally...hope you get a call or a letter this week. Take care.

Hi, my son is in DIV 315. Got a letter today said his phone call helped but he is still really homesick. Said he has been going to church and talked with the Chaplin there. The Chaplin told him it would be great if he stayed in but God had plans for him no matter what. Advised him that he would visit the REU recruit evaluation unit and speak with a counselor. He hadn't made up his mind if he was going to do it or not. To be honest I don't want him to get out he needs to fulfill his commitment and it is a building block for his future. All I can do is pray. And I am super bummed that I might not be able to make graduation. Please mom's don't think I am a horrible mom. Finances :(. Also please say a prayer for the whole Div, he said something about Battestation really soon like Monday and they haven't even really trained for any of that. I do apologize for rambling.

How old is your SR?. My Sr wanted to join right out of high school and I asked him to try other things first and if this is what he really wanted he had to commit 100%. He is now 21 and made the decision. I cannot even think how hard it would have been for him at 18. Battlestations?? This early, they haven't even done fire training yet, my SR told me that Friday was live fire and that they were moving through things quickly. I thought BS was the last thing they did before PIR.

You are right Battlestations is their "final test". It takes place right after they finish training week 6. (The seventh actual week of BC).
