I am looking for anyone that has a child leaving for boot camp on Aug. 25.
I am starting to feel some anxiety. I think after cleaning his bedroom out it hit me harder than I thought it would. Seven more days and I am nervous for him. He seems to be fine....its me. lol

Yes, keep us posted!!
I made hotel reservations last week anticipating graduation. I read on here somewhere that you count 9 Fridays starting with the Friday after your child leaves so I did and it was October 23rd. When my son went to the recruiters office they also told him they anticipated Oct. 23rd if all goes well. I figured when I get the graduation letter I than can adjust my hotel reservations if I needed.
FYI: I first made my reservations at Red Carpet Inn (on line through HotelsOne.com)even though they had bad reviews (it was only $60 a night) but I thought we are only there for a short time it would be ok and this hotel was only a mile from base. Well...... when I called the hotel to ask some questions they weren't very helpful ....I just got a bad feeling so I changed my reservations to the Navel Lodge Great Lakes and they were very professional over the phone so now I feel better...lol Also, HotelsOne.com billed by credit card at the time of the reservations, which I didn't like. HotelsOne was very nice and helpful when it can to canceling my reservations though.
Just wanted to share that with all of you in case anyone needs to make hotel accommodations.
I haven't made any reservations yet because a graduation date does not seem to be predictable this far in advance--which is a problem, given my work travel schedule. :-/ (Guess parents are supposed to be able to drop everything last minute for this??)
I'm concerned about the timing of finding out a definitive graduation date. I assume many of us will be coming from far away, and flight costs are rather high these days. I'd like as much lead time as possible to find affordable fares.
My concern also! So should we expect October 23??
I completely understand about travel time. From things I have read on here it seems like there is about a 3 week window. I am from MI so I will be driving so I'm not sure about finding flights but yes, they are costly.
Hopefully, we find out about graduation in time for you to get the time off and find a flight.
He IS leaving August 25! So are we pretty confident that graduation will be October 23?? I need to make travel plans too. I'm from coastal North Carolina. I breathe salty ocean air every day. Nice little beach town. Our son has never been away from home, and I am going to miss him so bad. Im a few thoughts away from crying my eyes out.
I am just guessing Oct. 23. Of course, that is if all goes well. No injuries, passing all tests.......we don't really know but hotel reservations can always be changed and I live in MI so we are driving so I don't have to deal with flights. I don't know how you plan if you need to get flights.
My son hasn't been away from home either. Your town sounds wonderful!!! My husband and I are traveling to NC to pick up a horse over Labor Day weekend. The town is Jacksonville....I think.
Today was an a very emotional day for me.....we went to church and I cried when they prayed over my son....then he got baptized.......and I cried.......I cried when I got home.....I feel like I have cried all day today....ugh
I will probably cry for 9 weeks straight....lol
Hang in there....we are in this together!!!!
Farah,
My son leaves on Monday for August 25 boot camp. He has lived away from home before, when he went to culinary school, so I am prepared for the separation but not for the distance and ... long-term-ness ... of the separation. I made the mistake of watching air craft carrier mishaps videos last night. Had trouble sleeping. :-( I'm nervous about him choosing the Navy. Nervous that he'll get hurt. Nervous that he'll not adjust well. Nervous that he will adjust well and never come back ... ugh.
Anyone's kids having nightmares or other signs of anxiety? My son is showing some anxiety signs.
So my son Tanner will be leaving August 25th!
So graduation then is October 23rd right?
Also, are you guys sending a copy of immunizations done?
I am just guessing Oct. 23 for graduation.....of course we don't really know for sure. I am not sending a copy of immunizations. we haven't been told we needed to send them. I was going to get my son up to date with his shots and his recruiter said not to they will just give him the shots again so I didn't. It sounds to be like it doesn't matter what shots they have they just get them all again.
WISHING US ALL the best for tomorrow's goodbyes. I've only gotten teary-eyed twice today. That's good, right?
That is good....scorpiozen!!!
Yes....good luck everyone!!! Stay in touch with this site.
