For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Please note! Changes to this guide happened in October 2017. Tickets are now issued for all guests, and all guests must have a ticket to enter base. A separate parking pass is no longer needed to drive on to base for parking.

Mimi - there is a Ballston Spa group you can join - although it's not as active as this group! There's also a discussion in the BS group about places to live.

My son lived in the Winner's Circle Apts - as did many others on here. He really liked it. He had 2 roommates, it was fairly close to the reactor site, came with a washer/dryer, garage, overall a nice place. We visited & were impressed with the place & the management is very military friendly! Here's the link:

My son is moving to Ballston Spa for prototype in August. Looking for places to stay as well as places to avoid and any updates since Mimi's last post. He would like to be close to the base and live on his own. The on base housing looks like it requires you to have a roommate. Thanks for your comments and ideas!

Rosemom - definitely have him look at Winners Circle. I posted the link up above. They have 1,2 & 3 bedroom apartments. Really nice places.

My son is currently at Ballston Spa. He is living at Ellsworth Commons in Malta, NY. He states that it is about 10-15 minutes from the training site. I have visited his apartment and the complex is quite nice. He shares an apartment with 2 other sailors. Their combined housing allowance easily covers the cost of the furnished apartment.
Also, it is a bit tough to find housing this time of year. Saratoga Springs race season is in full swing all month and landlords are busy renting to horse race fans.
