Hi guys, my boyfriend just enlisted in the navy. I am new to all this, and could use some help. My boyfriend is enlisted in the Navy and is getting ready to go away to boot camp. After he gets out he wants me to move to Cali with him while he goes to "A" school. I'm really nervous about this and I don't know what to do. I want to go with him but I know I'll have to get an apartment and he most likely won't be able to live with me.. I don't know how to deal with this and how to figure this out. I'm lost.

He has this whole plan for us, and I'm kinda worried. I am in the middle of going to school and trying to get my degree and I feel like moving across the country would get in the way of that. I want to be with him and eventually marry him but I don't know what to do. He knows exactly what he wants and what he's going to do. He wants me by his side but I don't know how to deal with up and moving.. I'm 19 and he's 20. I have so many questions.

Wat will it be like? Will I be able to live with him during "A" school? Would going to school be possible? has anyone gone through this experience?

please help!!

Hi CGirlfriend, I cannot answer any of your questions but I bet the ladies in the Girlfriends, Fiances and Wives group can.  Join that group if you haven't already. Good Luck with your decision.

I don't know how the A schools are now.  My husband and I got married the Saturday after he got out of boot camp.  We then both went from Tennesse for his A school training.  That was many years ago and that A school was a year long.   I could not go to college in Tennessee be cause we moved in the middle of the semester and the cost of being an out of state student was beyond our budget.  There were no real jobs to be found in the small town.  It was also hard for me to find a job.  My husband went to school all day and had to study at night.  He had to pull overnight duty at least once a week.  Those were the drawbacks.

The positive was that we were together --and we still are.

But if I had it to do all over again I would have stayed home in college.  We could have been together for holidays and long week ends.  For both of you your education is very important.

Let me tell you that you can get your education later --but if you do what I did and go to school while trying to raise children it is hard on all of you.

This is just MHO.  But I hope it gives you food for thought.

My husband I were married in February and we are both 19. We planned how we wanted to do things, and yet the military is full of surpises. He JUUUST graduated and is going to San Diego for A-School. I live in Lompoc, (9 hour drive) so he will go to A-school and he says he wont be able to move into our apartment until a coupe months, so we said we would wait till he is able to move into an apartment while we save up some money. It is a bigggggggg commitment with the Navy. You have to be all in and know that this man is worth everything your willing to sacrifice. You will both be sacrificing and its ok to be a little confused and scared. And if anything, I strongly say to get married as soon as possible that way he will be able to live with you. If you arent married- he will wont able to get his own place for a loooooong time. And I would stay start some online courses to get a head start. I postponed my college till the next semester just so we can save a little bit till school ate at it. Trust me, Im only a couple steps ahead of you. And if you know you will be with him forever, just go for it.

I would also join that group that Texas recommended.  Before you go off and get married I would suggest you talk to his recruiter. From what I have read on here it doesn't look like you can live with him during A School.  It may depend on how long school is.  He may have to live on base.  I wish you two the best.  The military life is not always the easiest but anything worth having isn't easy.

You can live with your spouse during "A" school. If A school is longer than 6 months then they move the family to live with the sailor. I am currently in that boat. Of course that only goes for if you are married.
