Sweet. My son left the 7th, maybe I'll get the kid in a box soon.

Happy Birthday NAVY!!!    240 years young today.

Congrats and good wishes to all the recruits and sailors.

I need some info from the group please----

I read on line on a Navy site that in April 2015, 200 Acer tablets were purchased and issued to recruits as a test program with plans to issue to all recruits for use while they are in boot camp. Did this program go ahead and was it put in place? If it did, are we able to communicate with out recruits via email or facebook?

Any info would be great. We were under the impression that they cannot access anything while there.

Also--we got our form letter today--Dec 4 graduation --I can't wait!!!!!

I've let ellen and FTLW know that form letters have been received for the 12/04/2015 PIR date. Keep checking PIR 12/04/2015 TG 04 and join when it is up.

I'm so glad to hear you got your form letter! I will be watching like a hawk for mine! It's very strange, I got the box before you, but I'm still waiting for the darn form letter. LOL! Today is rough, as it's his birthday - but this too shall pass. Did you see the info on the RTC facebook page about being able to spend Thanksgiving with your child if they have PIR on 12/4 or 12/11? Check it out!

That's only if you live within 50 miles of RTC--at least that is what I read on the site somewhere and what his recruiter told us. That may be answered by somewhere else in the site or contact lemonelephant--she seems to be very knowledgable about all of this. If you can stay in a hotel near there and adopt--that would be great for you. We are going to have to wait for graduation. Are you close enough that you can do it --if they allow it? That would be great if you can.

Our son told us before he left that he was going to do this program with one of the groups that sponsor this.

What DIV and ship is your SR? Happy birthday to your son!  My son's birthday will happen while he is A school. A milestone one too---21.

Cameronsmom, no, it is not just for those who live within 50 miles of the RTC. All of the recruits in those two TG's are eligible and will send home letters about it. Some loved ones will be able to head to the RTC for Thanksgiving and for PIR. Recruits who do not have a loved one who can adopt them will be adopted by an organization in the area.

MamaK, yes, the recruits in the 12/04/2015 and 12/11/2015 TG's will be part of the Thanksgiving Adopt A Sailor program. Your recruit will send a letter letting you know about the program and there will be a form for you to send back if you are able to adopt your recruit. No, you do not have to live within 50 miles of the RTC, but you must remain within 50 miles of the RTC. There are several restaurants that are open in the area on Thanksgiving because family members will be in town for Thanksgiving both for the 11/25/2015 PIR date and for the Adopt A Sailor program.

It is still a pilot program and only one division every 8 weeks has the tablets. Don't expect to receive much communication with your recruit. See Phone Cards and Phone Calls and Letter Writing & Fun Stuff/Questionnaires to send to your Recruit.

So I guess Dads are different. I am in the process of moving so told my son to send the box to his dads and I would get it first word of it being  received. It has taken a week and a day to get here, so his dad tells me the box is here, and I asked had he gone through it? And he said no not yet. He has had it for a day and you have not opened it??????? I did cry going through it, trying to get every last scent left on his shirt. I miss him so. Dec 4, come soon please.

When I unpacked my son's box, I cried as well. When I pulled his sweatshirt jacket from the box, I just hugged it and buried my face in it. I was picturing him giving me the last hug before he got on the bus for the airport.  It still had his cologne on it.  I haven't taken care of putting the things away yet and I still pull the jacket out and just hold it sometimes in the evening after everyone else has gone to sleep. I remember all of the talks we have had over the years and the hugs to ease broken hearts or just because.

Dad's are different. While I know my hubby is missing him even though he doesn't show it or talk about it. I know my son's leaving has affected him though because of the outward shortness of tone and slight edginess. He has also been comforting and understanding with my bouts of tears. I think guys process things so much differently than we do. We Moms wear our hearts on our sleeves and Dads usually don't.  It could be that your hubby wasn't ready to see the things in the box yet because he would have to deal with the loss of his son in a way--flying the nest (son)n his own now for the new chapter in his young adult life. Just a thought....

Dec 4 can't come soon enough for me too. My hubby asked me last night if I knew that I could not monopolize all of the time with him when we see him...so I think that was his way of telling me he misses him too. Or telling me to pull back on the Mom hat a bit. Made me smile a little.

Stay strong--we can get through this together. Each day is a little better, I think I only cried 5 times yesterday.  :)
