Finally got the date. Can't wait to meet other moms feeling the same as I.

On Saturday, my hubby and I went to Annapolis to walk around (it's a short drive away from us), have lunch and see if I could find some Navy Mom type things (magnet for car, shirt, etc.). It was so nice to walk around there. It was Homecoming weekend and we saw several groups of the Academy midshipmen walking around in dress blues. I was thinking of my son and how will look at graduation in his dress blues.
I didn't find much there. Most of it was Academy geared. I did find some pins for the Navy; one for Great Lakes and one that said my son is a sailor with a really nice Navy emblem in the middle. Nothing cheap looking--all tasteful. I got a glass with a Navy emblem on it as well. I guess I'll have to do my shopping at RTC for what I really want.
Looking forward to getting his letters. Nothing on Saturday. Can't wait for the next call.
You will be able to find things at the NEX on the RTC and also at the NEX on the Main part of the base.
Thanks! Is there a map or anything that is available head of time so we know where we are going on base?
Yes, and there are even some on this site. It is harder to find maps online due to heightened security on all military bases than in the past.
We also got the form letter today, SR left 10/06 and postmarked 10/21, when he called on 10/20 he told me he mailed it around the 13th. Hopefully everyone from that week has gotten the Form Letter by now.
When we talked to my son on Friday (10-23) he said he had mailed several letters to us about a week earlier and asked if we had received them yet---we haven't. I had Jury duty today and they let us go early. I saw the postman pull into our court and I actually went out to the truck to get the mail...nothing yet. I used to hate getting mail but no I look forward to it and I am disappointed when we don't get any.
HOOYAH!!!! I received 2 letters from my son today. One envelope had 3 letters in it and one had 1. I could hear his voice in my head as I read the letters. I cried and cried as I read them, reread them and read them again. These are the longest notes/letters he has ever written. I miss him so much. He has made some friends and I found a couple of matches with the names on the Facebook page for graduation. I had been feeling pretty down today and then this--made my day!!
So to clear things up, we can't change who is going to PIR right? I have already received the form letter and my son has the names, but my ex seems to think you can.
tammy8, you can't change the names nor can your ex (well, you can tell your recruit who to write down, but he actually writes down the names and those names are his decision). Only your recruit can change the names on the Access List. Those names are not submitted until 3 to 10 days before PIR, so your recruit has not submitted ANY names for the Access List yet. Even after the names have been submitted, the recruit (Sailor at that time) can change the names that he has submitted up to 24 hours before PIR if the names need to change for some reason such as that someone can't attend and someone else is able to instead (substitutions are only permitted if made by the Sailor at least 24 hours before PIR; they cannot be made on the day of PIR).
You are very welcome.
