For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

My son just started basic training last week in IL.How do you find out, when they're graduating. Also wanted to know where there is a good place to stay?

You will receive a form letter soon (it can take up to 3 weeks to arrive, but most arrive in 2 weeks or less) that will give you the PIR date and his address as well as other important information.
There will be information within the packet that comes with the form letter on places to stay. Check out this discussion, Recommended Places to Stay (clickable link), within the group, PIR Reference Information.
You may want to join, or at least check out, Boot Camp Moms, PIR Reference Information, and New Members Stop Here. Once you know his PIR date and/or division number, watch in Boot Camp Moms and/or at http://www.navyformoms.com/forum/topics/groups-listed-by-pir-date and join the group for that once it has been created.

Hello,
My son just left for basic training 10/5 - missing him a bunch of course! But this link really helped me with questions about places to stay when he graduates, etc. http://bootcamp.navy.mil/families.asp
On the date, we've been told several times that it can vary and is dependent on how fast his/her group does. Generally, I think it's 8 weeks after they are through the first week of processing.

From what I can tell, when they arrive -depending on when it is, is not basic training--that's Pdays. Week 1 (I counted it out last night) is this week for our son (Pdays -last week, he shipped 10-6)..week 8 is graduation 12/4--So this Friday will be 1 week down, 7 to go. Week 7 is Battle-stations.

My son started basic training last week (10/13/15) in Great Lakes, IL. Yesterday, I received "The Box" which contained dirty clothes, all of the belongings he took with him to Basic, and his cell phone. There was an envelope, that arrived later yesterday afternoon, that contained information stating graduation is 12/11/15.
This experience is so different from the my experience when my oldest son joined the Air Force in 2012; I'm thankful this forum is available.

You will receive a form letter from him which will give you his mailing address and date of graduation along with a lot of other information. My son entered boot camp on 9/22/15 and will be graduating 11/20/15 and I can't wait to wrap my arms around him! This has been an emotional experience!
