For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

He arrived at boot camp
So I'm offically here.
Very long day yesterday - especially for my son. We had met with him at the hotel Monday night and then went to MEPS for his swearing in and a quick final goodbye. He looked very confident at the Swearing In which made my heart proud.
He's SO ready - this has been a 2-yr process for him as he had to lose 100 lbs in order to start the enlistment process (18-ish months) and then he's been in DEP since early May (took 3 trips to MEPS to get his job back in April-May).
His flight was delayed over 5 hours so he spent a long time in the airport, He was able to text me which was nice and he called home at bedtime to say good night to his sisters (9 and 15) which they were thrilled with (so was I).
He finally arrived at O'Hare at 1130 Chicago time and was able to briefly text me right after landing. I waited up for the 30-second phone call - it came in at 130 chicago time which was 230 here. Short and sweet as expected - he sounded tired but ok.

One letter already written and waiting for an address - second letter in progress.
My husband (he was my BF then) went to Army bootcamp in 1990 and I did the same thing, wrote every day even before I had an address and the first day they had mail call, he had a ton of letters

Write him every day--the letters mean so much to the SRs. It's ok to let him know you miss him; but follow it with lots of positive reinforcement, proud of you's, and stories of home, his favorite sports team stats, etc...they live for these letters and believe it or not, he will read every one of them. You shouldn't send letters to an address that the recruiter gave --wait for the form letter--it will have the exact address to write to your SR. KEEP this letter, as it will have your password for getting your base pass for PIR too.
You are not alone either. This group is a strong group of ladies (and gentlemen too) that are a great support system and shoulders to cry on.
Don't miss Sarge's Meet and Greet the Thursday before PIR (you'll see posts about that in various places ), there are a few FaceBook sites (closed groups) that are helpful too and when you go to PIR, plan to get there maybe Wednesday or Tuesday before--just to allow for flight cancellations,delays, etc...especially for winter graduations. The last that I heard, there was one Mom who had her flight cancelled yesterday and arrival in IL was 830am (IL time), graduation doors shut at 845...no time to get there. My heart aches for her for missing it, but she will have after graduation time with her sailor. My son graduates 12/4--it seems like it was not that long ago that I was where you are..just starting out here and missing my son (that part hasn't changed).
Stay strong---with the determination that it sounds your son has, he will do fine!
