Hi!! My fiancé got enlisted to the navy on October but he has to wait until june 2016 to leave to bootcamp. Can we get married two month before he leaves to bootcamp?I have read here that recruiters do not like it because they have to change papers and is more work for them but what I want to know is if you can actually do it. I saw a video of one navy wife who did exactly the same thing Im asking about, with her sailor. Also my fiance will take the officer exam if all goes well and they have to send all his information again do you believe that it is also a good opportunity to get married before they send his officer application? thanks in advanced

Yes, you can. We did. My hubby started DEP in the fall/winter, then we got married in March and he left in May. I would be totally upfront with the recruiter though, we told him from the first meeting that we would be getting married before he went to bootcamp and he was good about working with us. Don't say, "we want to get married", say, "we are getting married on mm/dd. What do we need to do for paperwork?"
And get married earlier rather than later. I suggest doing it sooner because he'll need your social security card with your correct name, along with your updated state id and whatever else they need, I don't remember it all. A new SS card takes up to 8 weeks to get. Plus, it's just easier on the recruiter if they can get the paperwork done earlier rather than rush it the last few weeks. It also gives you time to get everything collected. You'll need a marriage certificate, if you're previously divorced, they'll need your divorce decree. Marriage certificates aren't usually immediately available, especially if you're married by a religious official, the certificate has to be mailed to the county and processed, that all takes time. We were very lucky to got married by a judge at the courthouse who was awesome. My husband asked if there was any way we could get the certificate for the recruiter asap, and she asked the bailiff to walk the signed copy to records with my husband and let them know to process it immediately so he could get the copy the same day.
