Choose your Username.  For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either).  Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username.  While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups!  Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself!  Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility. 

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.  

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Hello Moms!

Have any of you with a son or daughter in prototype heard about the stand down/slow down and how it is effecting Holiday Leave?

My son is in prototype in South Carolina . His group was suppose to get come in this week but it got canceled .. He is hoping to get to the last if January

Is your son in BS or GC?  When my son was in proto in BS (last Christmas) they didn't get any holiday leave per say.  The reactor site is open 24/7....all "non-essential" personnel did get a couple of days off for Christmas but other than that they worked their regular schedule.  If you were lucky it might have fallen during your 4 days off.....My son wasn't that lucky lol! Might be different in GC.....

Yep, he's in Goose Creek!  Thanks for the info! They have 4 days off---but he was hoping to get longer leave--which he requested.  They can get it if they are 7% ahead of the curve---which he was until the stand down---which has put everyone behind the curve... So, we are still waiting to hear...

Mine said that he does not think that extended leave will be granted.  He is planning on spending his 4 days in GC.

My son is also at Goose Creek. Protype is TOUGH because of the 12 hour work shifts. If he cannot do four days worth of work, AHEAD of scheduled classes, no holiday leave for Christmas or New Years will be granted. He is very disappointed. Morale among the sailors not going home is tanking.

Can anyone tell me what's going on with this?

Haven't heard from ours in awhile but, last time we spoke, he was FINE with this.  He's grateful for the 4 days off.

Maybe he's OK because he's "older" (25) and spent 5 years away from us when he went away to college.  He did come home at Christmas but never for Thanksgiving.  We usually planned a trip with him somewhere during the summer or Christmas break.  Now it's HIS time to decide what to do.  Of course we would love to have him here but we're OK with his decision and I know he can live with it.  He actually LIKES Charleston. 

Hello Other Moms!

Thank you for your shares and supports.  As my son did not take leave between power school and prototype (thus he has leave accumulated) and because he has been fortunate enough to be ahead of the curve up until the slow down, his leave was granted.  He got a week.  But we only heard yesterday and he is flying home today! We are so grateful.  We live in Oregon--so flying home over a 4 day break would have meant less than 48 hours.  I hope all of your sons (or daughters) have a good holiday (home or not) and Happy Holidays to all of You Too!
